Autoloading not working--Printer will not print, asks for filament to be unloaded

Any help appreciated:

Printer is the i3 mk3.  Have been using it successfully for a good while.

Updated the firmware to 3.8.1.  The problems:

Filament will not autoload.  I have to push it through manually.  Nozzle is NOT clogged--it will push right through.

When I go to print, the printer will go through the leveling routine, the nozzle will touch down in the front left corner as usual--then it lifts off the bed about 30 cm and the message on the panel says to unload the filament.  I unload the filament, acknowledge unloading is successful.  I do my usual thing--cut the end of the filament at a 45 degree angle, re-insert it and--nothing.  I select autoload from the menu, and the message on the panel says that autoload is active and all I have to do is push the knob.  Nothing.

The motor will, however, work on the unloading cycle, just not the loading.

Should I go back to previous firmware?  Or what other solutions?  Is this a symptom of a hardware issue?

Thanks for any help. 🙁

UPDATE:

As suggested in another thread, I turned off the sensor.  Still the same result--the printer would do the 9-point test, act like it was about to start printing, then come off the bed, moved to the right, and require the filament to be unloaded.  Repeated cycle.

Well it seems to be solved.  I turned off the sensor again, and loaded filament, and it worked.  Not sure why it worked this time and not previously, but I'll take it!!
