Autoload Filament Not Working

I built my MK3S+ about a week ago and it's been working great - apart from the filament doesnt now autoload. Ive checked the IR sensor to make sure it's still plugged into the extruder, which it is. Ive also made sure that autoload is on in the settings, which it is. What should I check next?

Best Answer by MartyS:

I had the same problem about a week after I built mine.

On the printer menu go to "support", then scroll way down to "sensor info".   Take a short piece of filament and push it in and out of the hole, the IR sensor should be zero when nothing is in the hole and one when filament is inserted.

If it doesn't change first thing to do to try and fix it is to shift the circuit board with the IR sensor a little bit to the right or left, loosen the screw holding it down and push the board to one side or the other and see if it starts working properly, on mine it only took a tiny shift to get it back to working.  If it starts working hold it in that spot and tighten the screw holding the board.

Some people have reported that they had to lift the board a little by putting a shim under it.

If that doesn't work there are more tips here:

Sorry if this seems too obvious, but do you have the sensor itself enabled?  At least on MK3, which is the version I'm still on, there's a separate setting for that.

I've got autoload enabled in the settings. Do you mean that, or is there a seperate setting for the sensor as well?

On MK3 there are separate settings for filament sensor enable and autoload enable, although if filament sensor is disabled the autoload setting will show "N/A".  I can't speak to how it is on the MK3S+, because it's different firmware.  I only tossed in the suggestion because it's quick and easy to check, and maybe you would get lucky.

Good luck!

Fantastic! Its now working. I did as you suggested. The screw holding the IR was a bit too tight. Ive now loosened it and its working fine. Thanks for your help.
