XYZ Calibration failures... on fresh out of box pre-assembled printer

Understandably, I'm a little upset at present, I sent $250 extra to buy an assembled and tested printer... which doesn't seem to work.

This evening I pulled my new MK3 out of the box, followed the (rather out of order) instructions, powered it up to move the Z axis up (to make safe removal of the foam), removed the test print from the bed... then proceeded to run through the setup wizard.

First time I tried an XYZ calibration, I killed it quickly as the paper was getting caught by the nozzle, even poking a small needle sized hole through it.

Before the second time I got the nozzle nice & hot, removed the existing filament, and gave it a light cleaning. I could identify no further material sticking on the outside of the nozzle. It made it to failing on the second calibration point.

I noticed that one of the rear rubber feat was still in the box, so I put it back to where I thought it should go, along side the other rear foot on opposite rail. This time I made it to the third calibration point. An improvement? Not really.

For the fourth time, I broke out my camera to record the progress... and sure enough, come calibration point 2... it fails:

What am I supposed to do about this? The whole idea of buying a pre-assembled, pre-tested unit was to avoid these out of the box issues.

Order reference #: 182152226

On a lark, before posting this I decided to upgrade from firmware v 3.3.1-845 to 3.4. No changed, next failure happened on point 2... still catching the paper, despite the nozzle being clean. Before the upgrade I was getting "XYZ calibration failed. Bed calibration point was not found.", this last time around I'm told to consult the manual for the failure.

No good venting on here I'm afraid, we are all just Prusa users. I have never seen a support reply via the forum.

Email your issue directly to [email protected] but expect 2 - 3 day wait for response, or use the live chat feature (bottom right) from https://shop.prusa3d.com

Sorry your journey started off badly but shipping can really mess up a printer. Contact support, they will sort you out. Good luck!

Also be aware (if it wasn't in the documentation they sent you) that you'll likely have to recalibrate any time you move the printer, change nozzles, change build plates, and a few other occurrences that affect the printer physically.

It's just part of the game... 😐

when to recalibrate 3d printers

That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!
