Which print bed sheet?

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying the new Prusa i3 MK3S kit, but I'm not sure which print bed sheet I need, or if it's worth buying both?

I thinking I'll be using PETG and PLA for printing. PETG for functional parts, which is mostly what I want to print, and maybe a bit of PLA. (Does this sound right?)

Any advice on which print bed would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ned

I would second Timo's answer.

The smooth PEI is the all arounder with generally good adhesion for most materials.

I only use the textured sheet when I need the special finish for optical reasons on a faceplate. Though, I experience, while adhesion for most materials is also good, PLA can be a gamble for longer prints.

I would recommend you get both. I have had no issues with either of the beds but it is nice to have the choice if you wand a shiny or textured bottom surface. Also it is much cheaper to buy both of them now than buying one later with added shipping.

I got both and like them both.

I will note I tried to add the second sheet during the sale purchase.

Adding anything other than the MK3S to the cart lost free shipping...

Bought the (cheaper) smooth sheet after. Maybe $12 shipping. Definitely worth it for PLA. Doubt if I will use it for PETG.

If you only buy one, go with the smooth. If you can, buy both.

Last I looked, there was an option to buy smooth, textured, or both when you order a kit. Not sure when that was added but with the addition of sheet profiles in 3.8.0, it’ll be easier to swap between sheets!

Just as a follow up, getting both sheets was definitely the right idea. I use the PEI sheet when printing PLA, and the textured sheet when printing PETG.

Cheers
