It seemed to drop my issue description. The fayers in the print jogged 2mm in the X axis for about 2mm of layers and then went back to the original. No errors in the slicing.

Make sure you r X axis toothed wheel is tight

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

The usual suspects are incorrect belt tension or loose grub screws on the motors. Another  possibility is that your nozzle hit infill or a perimeter that slightly curved upward. I've seen this quite often with grid infill that has overlapping lines of filament in a single layer.

Grub screw seems more likely than collision (since it shifted back to previous position)...

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

The drive belt is snug as well as the grub screw, there does not seem to be any lash in the x axis. I was going to replace the nozzle (other issues). any other suggestions?

Are you printing through Octoprint?  I had a layer shift issue that drove me crazy for a long time printing through Octoprint. I then traced it to down to a specific plug-in and it resolved when I removed the plug-in.  Although in my case, the layer shift was just one way (i.e. it did not come back to normal on higher layers).

It seems very odd, to get a shift in a plane, print numerous layers and then shift back to exactly where it started. Is this a common fault?

Obviously not build plate adhesion. I can't imagine how, but does the Mk3 have some way to know this condition has occurred and correct it?
