Useful Tools & Materials For 3D Printing

I recently put together a video about some of my favourite tools/materials to have alongside my 3D printer!

My last video 'How To Service Your Prusa' had a great response here, so I thought I'd share this one too. Hopefully it becomes of use to some beginners out there! Let me know what tools you guys like to use alongside your printers... I'm keen to find out!

Plastic sticker remover from amazon.  It has removable blades. https://www.amazon.com/Ehdis-Visibility-Plastic-Scraping-Windshields/dp/B01HLWB0BM/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=blades+plastic&qid=1569238640&s=gateway&sr=8-2

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

I'm not seeing any links to your videos. Did they accidentally get stripped, or did you forget to include them?

New member, so probably can't put any up yet.

@ Charles, to be fair the version you have shown is simpler and the blades just clip in. My version can come with questionable tapped threads for the screw clamp so two are supplied because maybe only one of them may work. 🙂

Plastic spray bottles are great for delivering just the right amount of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol or water. A few sprays and I conveniently get them applied for wiping down the print plate or solubilizing PVA glue stick. Much neater and precise than attempting to dribble out of a bottle. Also keeps the liquids from evaporating.

You can even spray the hot plate during Live-Z with the IPA to "thermal shock" the test sheet off the heat bed. No need for fancy chill spray.

Probably don't want any sparks, but the small amount of vaporized alcohol dissipates rapidly and isn't explosive as one may fear.

Speaking of IPA, the "rubbing alcohol" or 91% stuff you find at drug stores can have too much water or other content. Go for the 99% stuff.

$5 for three spray bottles https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H5B2YNM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$32 for 12 x 16oz bottles https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ABPUGH0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Zbrush, mudbox, substance painter, 3d coat, blender

I personally prefer substance, but you can achieve finalised textures in pretty much any of them.

Substance painter is a program especialidade at 3d painting. Zbrush, mudbox and 3dcoat are 3d sculpture softwares which also support painting, and blender is a 3d modeling software which also supports painting. It's up to you to choose based on your needs. Keep in mind that blender tools are limited compared to the others.

But you probably will want to make some minor tweaks on Photoshop anyways because it's just faster

Remember that you will almost always need to UV map your model, since this is the way game engines uses to work

@guy-k2

I use these because they fit the large bottles of alcohol that I buy and there is no need to pour.
