'supermerill' prusaslicer fork with ironing feature

Hi,

has anyone used this forked version ? If I am understanding the GitHub download correctly , the latest released version (with a compiled windows .exe file) is based on prusaslicer v 1.42.2 - is that correct ?

Another thing is that for the life of me, I cannot find how to switch on the ironing feature, and its options - can anyone enlighten me ?

I've used it a bit but not the ironing feature so I cant help with that.  I was using it in parallel with the 1.4 betas/early 2.0 releases of Prusa Slicer but must admit I haven't since the 2.1 releases.

It was giving very comparable general results but I liked some of the other things it supported like only a single perimeter on top layers with the rest infill option.  The different layout of options takes a bit of getting used to but its good.

You can run them both side by side as the configs are stored in different places so I still have it installed and I'm waiting for a 2.x merge version.

Actually looking at the settings I think you go to Infill > External Patterns and select ironing instead of rectilinear (or one of the others).

It would be real nice, if PrusaSlicer supported plug-ins for surface and infills in a scripting language (LUA or similar).

That would make it way easier to experiment and expand PrusaSlicer functionality.

Wow!!!  This supermerill version of Slic3r is AWESOME!!!  Thanks for the tip texy.  

So many more options to mess with.  Most of them useful as hell and not included in the Prusa version.

I highly recommend checking it out.  The new "skinnydip" edition was just released yesterday.  

It looks like we can also adjust temps for MMU filament changes (I'm currently messing with all of the Single options -- ironing is just plain awesome).  It's actually embarrassing how many more options it has compared to the Prusa version.

Prusa should put this guy on their payroll.  It's got almost every option I've ever thought of.  

Several months ago, I was trying to print with soluble supports.  I kept getting an unwanted pattern from the soluble interface on the first layer of PLA.  Once I dissolved the BVOH, I could see the "pattern" of the BVOH in the flat first layer of PLA just above the BVOH.  I thought to myself, I wish I could change the pattern of the BVOH.

Guess what....now I can with this version.  I can pick the pattern for Support Interface.  On top of that....I can "iron" the interface as well to make it completely smooth.    NNIICCEEE.....

Solid infill is super-smooth...it adjusts the flow somehow.  No more "over-lapping" ridges/shadows.  Extra perimeters where needed actually works.  Along with tweaks for overhangs, external perimeters.  

I can't wait to mess with the MMU settings.  Looks like we can finally print at normal temps and then drop to a different temp during retraction/cooling moves to keep the tips from stringing.  

Everything is documented nicely (hover over the setting and it gives you a description).  I keep printing Benchys and cubes as fast as I can try different things.  LOL.

I think I found my first "downfall".  I can't seem to do "soluble supports".  It keeps telling me it won't let me generate a wipe tower with soluble supports.  I have to make the Support Extruders "zero" in the Multi-Extruder section.  I'm gonna do some more research.  

I may try to use MeshMixer to generate supports and do that as a work-around.  Not sure yet.

Be aware that as its a merge with the main Prusa Slicer branch that it can and will contain many of the same issues .  I'd check the main github for a matching problem and see if anyone has reported it.  If not create an issue on Merill's fork.  Cant fix it if he doesn't know about it.

Thanks neophyl,

I figured it out.  A small problem with default settings.....but a quick search figured it out.  

In the default settings for "with soluble supports"....it shows "Z-Offset Type" as "from Filament".  You have to turn that to "none".    One of the great features that this fork contains are the options.  I just need to make sure the options all jive with each other.

Now Z spacing for supports is "none" and "0" and "0" (distance top and below), I'm back in business.
