Software update massage

Every time I start a print with Octoprint the printer prompts my to update to 3.3.1 and will not start to print until I click the button on the printer. Kinda inconvenient since the printer is in the workshop and I'm in my office. Of course I will update at some point, but at my convenience. Why the nagging? Can I turn it off?

Re: Software update massage

You can get rid of the nag by changing the first line of the "Custom G-Code" in printer settings to match the version number of the firmware you are using, or an earlier version...

Look for the following line (should be the first line) and modify the firmware version number as desired...

M115 U3.2.1 ; tell printer latest fw version

Re: Software update massage

We're not using Octoprint, nor is the MK3 connected to the internet, yet we still get that update message. So my question is, how does the printer even know about the update? 😕

It's in the custom g-code of Slic3r.

So... Slic3r PE (and PrusaControl) are in constant/regular communication with Prusa--even if we're not online? 😕

To paraphrase John McClane, (Die Hard with a Vengeance) "Is that something I would have turned on?" 🙄 Can we turn it off the same way as described for Octoprint?

If you told Slic3rPE to automatically update profiles, it will do so. Your computer runs the slicer software (Slic3r) which generates the gcode that includes the aforementioned line. When you print the gcode, it compare the value in that line to its current running firmware version.

Unless you use Google products, of course. In that case, your toothbrush needs a firmware update.

No, it is not in constant contact with Prusa.

The first line of the Custom G-Code in the slicer profiles, tells the printer what version number to check. If the version that gets embedded in the g code is higher than the version in the printer, it will prompt you to update.

As was already shown earlier in the thread.

For exmple: M115 U3.2.1 ; tell printer latest fw version

Change this to an earlier version or the same version your printer is currently using and you won't get the prompt.

EDIT TO ADD:
I forgot about the preset updates. If you want to turn these off, you can do so in the Configuration > Preferences menu,
There are two of interest. Check for application updates and Update built in Preset automatically.
