Ok thank you, that makes it worth while going to 1.40.1 beta 🙂

Ok in 1.40.1 beta slicing runs on all 20 logical processors and they are released after slicing is complete. G-Code generation however only runs on one logical processor.

Still its a major improvement using all logical processors for the slicing and correctly releasing them one done. 🙂

What is the distinction between "slicing" and "generating g-code". Do you mean the export to disk function? Can a sequential disk write be broken out into multiple processes safely?

Generating g-code is in the export to disk function. It is only then that Slic3r generates the g-code and so that it is when it can calculate the time to print. I think Slic3r is doing a fair bit of work twice after all as part of the main Slicing process it must work out inner perimeters bridges etc if that information was retained the colour coding and print times could be calculated then.

If Slic3r generated G-Code in memory only then could it be spread across the cores running faster. Once generation was done could it be written to disk. Resulting in a much faster export.

Today I searched in Slicer 1.4 for the feature “place surface on bed” from simplify3d … is it somehow implemented ?
A little bit of googling led me to this place -> https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/issues/4397

I'm not aware of a specific "place surface on bed" button, but Slic3r will place an object at Z=0. The model will touch the bed at its lowest point, but won't be rotated to be as flat as possible. This is consistent with what I've observed in Simplify 3D and Cura.

It would be better to start a new thread to get better answers, as this one is mostly focused on the beta release.

In simplify3d you click on a face and then go to edit -> place surface on bed.

By reading the github issue it seems to me that you cannot click/chose faces in slic3er.

Since there seems to be already some sort of implementation for this feature I just wanted to say that it would be cool to see this in slic3er prusa edition. I use that feature quite a lot in simplify but I understand that most people won’t need this or maybe are using for example meshmixer first as a workaround.

Second that 😀
I miss this functionality in Slic3r PE - from time to time I just fire S3D up to reorient a part, using this feature (Ctrl L) - export the part in STL and re-import into Slic3r.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Wait... could you export STLs in Simplify 3D? I'd love to be able to export with custom support.

is the "Avoid crossing perimeters" fixed in this version? I am using S3D just for that feature because in slic3r it does not work properly. Please fix it prusa.

Yep, It is under File - Export Model. I always then choose Export ASCII STL. I do that when I resize and orient a rather pesky stl file, so I never have to do it again. Not sure if it saves supports or not, I have not tested that.

I just tried: sadly it doesn't. It would be heaven if it would, though...

Will you be able to auto save the file gcode filename example- filename-015mm-PET.gcode or filename-005mm-pla.gcode?

Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.40.1 - beta

I ran into an issue with Slic3r. When I resize an object, making it larger, it does not take into account any other object on the platter; it odes not move objects around to prevent them from being inside each other. I have to manually move one of the objects and then Slic3r will auto place them all so they do not touch. But if I do not do that, they will be built one on top of the other.

Two things on a wish list:

1. An Undo Button.
2. The ability to drag an object to change its size. For example, if I have a Monk figure I use as a size reference for printing other figures, I want to be able to just drag a second object to make it larger and smaller. This would be MUCH easier than going to the resize selection, making a change, viewing it, going back to resize and making another change, viewing it, repeat ad nauseum... S3D does this very well, so steal it from them. 🙂

using the Beta version. in release notes it says that the Prusa bed layout will be shown but I only see the standard view. There is no directory resources\icons\bed in the download zip file.
Am I missing something?
Thanks for all your work on all the updates. You are making this a really great printer.

Note: RC2 release fixed this. Thanks

Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.40.1 RC2 - beta upgrade

Hi,

Know this may sound like a dumb question, however, when installing the latest of the Prusa "packs" it did an install of all components. This was for 1.40.0.

Now that we have newer versions of the Prusa Slic3r, how is this installed so as to not lose any of the config settings etc...

I would have thought there was an installation process.

I did get a warning that there were new versions, however it is not "installing" the update.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.40.1 - beta

my MK2 / S works, but the ABS hot bed can not hold 110 degrees (achieves it). falls down until the printer is left to stand. 100 degrees works

cool if you develop software but... great benefits do not seem to be at the moment

what i need?

i need more strong seams. like this object:

try to make the details stronger
