Rhythmic popping sound

I'm hearing a popping sound while my project is printing the top layers.  Any ideas what it might be?  I've attached a video where you can hear it (at least I hope this video attaches correctly).  I guess not.  It must be too big.

Odd sound

Does it happen with all layers of print or just the 100% infilled layers?

Popping

I don't remember hearing it at all until this last print when I was monitoring the final 4 top layers.  And I don't hear it right now when starting a new print.

Possible extruder flow issue

If you are referring to that soft thumping sound, that is likely caused by back pressure in the extruder. Observe the print to see if that only happens when doing large solid infill areas like it's doing in your video. Infill is printed at a higher rate of speed, and overrunning the hotend throughput rate (max volumetric rate) is common.

This is easy to test. Next time that noise starts, dial back the speed to 50% using the front knob on the printer. If the thumping or clicking subsides, you know it's just a question of speed.

  • If it's not causing print defects, you can ignore it.
  • Bumping temps up 5-10C can improve flow, but might add to stringing and other issues.
  • You can reduce the infill speeds, or just set Filament Settings->Advanced->Max volumetric speed 1-2 mm^3/s lower and try again.

Thank you.  It doesn't appear to have quality issues so I think I'll take your advice and ignore it.  One less thing to worry about.
