Recommendations for filament to use

Hi everyone,

I use a 1.5 kw milling machine that has a sacrificial two speed gear.  This gear has given way and unfortunately the factory in China appears to be closed due to Covid restrictions. So I have drawn the part in Fusion 360 and its ready to go but considering the stress placed on the teeth of the gear what would be your recommendation on choice of filament?  The original I think is a nylon/resin mix.

Thanks Bob

It depends on how smoothly it runs and how hot.  You might be able to use PLA which does well with some gearing.  Otherwise Nylon or CF nylon would be next choice.  Don't forget that you can send your files to a printing service to have them printed in metal if necessary...

Cheerio,

I never tried it myself but Xometry.com looks like an interesting option. They are a market platform where you can upload your design and bascially choose how you want it produced and in what material and they will figure out who can do so and produce quotations. They offer all sorts of stuff, most printing technologies, polymer and metal as well as CNC etc.

I am pretty sure they are also not the only ones doing that.

Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4
