PTFE Tube Jam Update

Hi All.  Just got back to the printer and got it running.  Disassembled the hotend, applied new thermal paste, reassembled the extruder and began printing my interrupted job. First round went well with the original filament.  Second batch broke loose from the print bed and the filament appeared jammed but I was able to clear it and assure the entire feed channel was clear.  Adjusted the nozzle temperature to 205 as the maker's recommendation range was 190 to 220 and I hoped the lower temperature would remove any possibility of a PFTE tube jam that started this whole adventure.  Got through another round successfully.  Second batch started well only to discover at about the halfway point that the extruder was doing a fruitless dance about a quarter inch above the print surface as no filament was coming out.  Aborted the print, freed the filament, assured the channel was open, loaded a new different filament, and once again experienced success.  That's when I started paying more attention to the filament feed off the spool.  I'll add that the printer is enclosed in a 3D UpFitters enclosure designed for the MMU2S  while the upgrade itself awaits my comfort with the basic printer.  I am using one of the filament spool trays from the kit to hold and feed the filament.   It appears that occasionally the filament on the spool gets tangled and the extruder-idler scrapes at the filament until it breaks free or enough filament is scraped away so the gear can no longer get a grip to feed.  This is of course, all conjecture but it might explain the scrape marks found on the filament once I was able to free it.  Or those marks might have occurred during the freeing process.  My questions to the community then are:  Is/has this(filament tangling on the spool) been an issue in the past and what solution(s) are there?  Is there a specific way to route the filament when using the upgrade holder?  Could the problem be in the Extruder-idler tension adjustment and how is that accomplished other than the initial screw position without filament loaded?

As always I look forward to any advice you can offer.
