Morning and new MK3S+ user

Morning all! I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my I3 MK3S+ that I ordered about 2.5 weeks ago. Really looking forward to getting into printing. I like to fly FPV drones and there are a lot of 3D printed parts in many of these. Hopefully my printer will be here in another 2 weeks or so. I ordered the kit as I love to make things and I figured it would be fun to assemble the printer myself.

@bascule

Welcome to the forum 😀

It is fun and its a really good manual which helps a lot.

Best advice I can offer is use the waiting time to study the online manual, use this version instead of the printed as its more up to,date and has comments. Read if often to get a good idea of the pitfalls before starting.

Take your time with the build, try and make sure the frame is square with no rocking before moving on.  Took me 2 full days to build, and another day to nail the first layer.

Dont rush it and really take your time with the extruder and cabling, these are the hardest parts.

Any issues or doubts dont hesitate to ask.

Its a brilliant printer but requires a lot of care and attention to detail building.

Hello @bascule and welcome indeed. 😀

I agree with @Clarmrrsn. It's so much fun building your printer. The online manual is really good and suggestions in the comments can really help with the build. Take your time, work neatly and enjoy your build.

When you are ready for your first layer calibration, I can recommend to read JeffJordan's Life adjust Z - my way. His posts are reaally helpful in finding the right value for the live z adjustment.

Happy building and printing!

All seems successful. That was a very easy build indeed, and I'm quite impressed with the quality of the kit.

Thanks - that was a useful post. It got my setup dialed in much better than using the process in the manual. 🙂

RE: Hello everyone

Just bought used i3mk3 and completely new to 3d printing.

I have downloaded "Benchy" and it keeps detaching from the bed as it prints. Calibrated printer, cleaned the nozzle, cleaned the bed with isopropanol. all without success.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Regards,

Bob

you need to attach pictures of your first layer and ideally zip up your .3mf file so folks can see what settings you're trying to print with.  Also useful for diagnosis, what filament type/branch,   e.g. prusa silver PLA.

Likely your zOffset isn't low enough, but without pictures folks on here won't be able to really tell.

Piling on here - welcome and good luck!

One lesson that will save you a tremendous amount if pain and effort. Never touch the print sheet with your fingers, and when you do, learn to wash the print sheet in soap and water.

90% of the help requests that I've seen tend to be adhesion issues, where a part id falling off the sheet, the first layer doesn't stick properly, etc.

A pure dish detergent, like Dawn, Fairy, unscented and without things like antoi-bacterial agents, works best. It only takes a drop or two on a fresh paper towel, running hot water at a sink, scrub the sheet to life the oils, then rinse until the hot water is sheeting off: handling the sheet only by the edges. Dry with another fresh paper towel. You don't want last nights meal from you everyday dish sponge in the mix, nor fabric softener from that dryer sheet that freshens your shirts.

Alcohol and acetone have there place, but those require a large volume to work well, and are best used to handle specific cleaning tasks.

Thanks! I've not had much in the way of adhesion issues so far, it's Bob above that has this problem.

@ssill2

Thanks for your reply,

I think you got it in one with the height. I've lowered z axis and although not quite there there is a definite improvement.

Apologies to bascule  for hijacking the thread. I can't see where to start a new topic.
