Mk3 ->Mk3s -> Mk3s + upgrade

I have a Mk3 and more than 1 year ago I purchased the upgrade to Mk3s, with included printed parts

I have not found the time to upgrade the printer, but now a new upgrade to Mk3s+ is coming.

What is the difference between the Mk3->Mk3s and the Mk3 ->Mk3s+ upgrades?

I would like to know and buy what's needed to bring my printer from Mk3s to Mk3s+

 your help is much appreciated

There is an upgrade kit Original Prusa i3 MK3/S to MK3S+ upgrade kit listing all changes from MK3S->MK3S+.

I recently upgraded one printer from MK2.5S to MK3S and had the same question about MK3S+. The easiest  way is to pre-order this upgrade kit as it has everything needed. It should be shipped in January.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

From  a functional standpoint, probably the most noteable part of the "plus" upgrade is a new pinda probe that's less temperature sensitive than what was used in the MK3.

@dsammart

upgrading from the Mk3 to Mk3S+ you would need the new IR Filament sensor, plus cable, magnets and ball bearing, plus a couple of screws from the Mk3S upgrade kit... the older laser filament sensor is not compatible with the Mk3S+ upgrade

Hi, to be clear and to make sure I order the correct items. If I have a stock MK3 that was one of the originals and I wanted to go to the MK3S+ I would need both the MK3S and the MK3S+ upgrade kits? The MK3S+ kit does not contain all the parts needed to take it from a 3 to a 3S+?

Is that correct? I'm not even seeing the MK3 -> MK3S upgrade kit anymore.

Maybe I totally missed what was being said here. I'm ok with that as well. 😀

Thanks

RE: Mk3 ->Mk3s -> Mk3s + upgrade

Looking at the available upgrade all I can see is

https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/original-prusa-i3-mk3s/1390-original-prusa-i3-mk3-to-mk3s-upgrade-kit.html

which does not appear to include the magnets, ball bearing or screws that the Mk3 to mk3S kit included.

this kit contains the extra parts and may be an option for you (Note the IR Sensor in this kit is probably the old revision1 version  which could be modified to bring it up to date, If you are electronically minded)

to the best of my knowledge these are the additional items that you would need

M3x18 screw (1x)

M3x10 screw (1x)

M3nS nut (2x)

M3n nuts (2x)

Steel ball (1x)  (Possibly 7mm diameter... but this is a guess, Joan)

neodymium Magnet 10x6x2 (1x)

neodymium Magnet 20x6x2 (1x)

M2x8 screw (1x)

Thanks for the info. That's not really great when you want to go to 3+. There has to be something I'm missing here otherwise, wouldn't it make sense for them to actually post that on the site?

I purchased the MK3s+ upgrade kit and it does contain the magnets and ball bearings, and will allow you to go from a Mk3.

Fantastic. Thank you. I wonder why it doesn't list those things. Appreciate the help.

Hi Ronnie,

Which printer do you have now?

is it the
Mk3 with the Four Wire  laser filament sensor and the 4 wire version2 Pinda  or
mk3S with Black Infra red three wire  Filament Sensor  and the 4 wire version2 Pinda or
Mk3S+ with Red Infra Red,  Three wire   Filament Sensor and the Supa Pinda?

RE: Mk3 ->Mk3s -> Mk3s + upgrade

@ronnie12342003

Hi Ronnie,
Is your printer fitted with a  Bondtech geared  extruder ?

If so, your E steps per millimeter are possibly set to the wrong value

My Geared extruder needs the Esteps setting to three times the standard Esteps, because it is a 3:1 geared motor

maybe this is your issue?

Have a look at this note

RE: Mk3 ->Mk3s -> Mk3s + upgrade

right all sorted so the problem stemmed from the lcd screen it started messing about with the SD card so having fixed it yea right i started printing and over a period of 3 days it got to the state where it would not print so done all the usual checks and replace this replace that i assumed in my extensive lol knowledge that the extruder motor was at fault it was not but definitely extruder problem so jean said check the E steps so i allready have it on my SD card so reloaded steps nothing so i left it for a few days and today i was reading some old forum replys about E steps and one guy daid the same problems as mine but hea loaded the E steps from usb on the computer straight to the printer and bingo all works so it still may have something to do with the LCD screen if it is i will change it so for now its perfect as it was 3 years ago thanks jean for pointing me in the right direction and any one else who replied till the next time
