Missing STEP files in Original-Prusa-i3 github repo

Hi,

I noticed that not all parts in https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/tree/MK3S/Printed-Parts are available as STEP files that have counter parts as STL. Is this deliberate or have they been forgotten? I'd prefer to use the STEP files as reference when I make modifications or additions to my printer.

There's also at least one (over a year old) unresolved issue in github related to this: https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/issues/188
(It's not just the X axis files that are missing, unlike what the bug report says).

As a side note, the repo "About" says "Original Prusa i3 MK2 3D printer printed parts." which is outdated information.

Ok, I found the answer, https://help.prusa3d.com/article/printable-parts-for-original-prusa_1824:

Some parts were designed using OpenSCAD, where SCAD files are the project files you can edit. For that reason, for all parts designed with OpenSCAD, there are only SCAD files and no STEP-files available.

AIui, in the early days the CAD software used (OpenSCAD) did not output STEP.  At some point they switched to STEP capable CAD and parts created/modified after that date have offered the format.

Cheerio,

So can someone recommend a good app to make modifications to STEP files (prefer free) and then convert them to STL?

I haven't tried it myself, but you can open the OpenSCAD files in FreeCAD and export to STEP from there: https://wiki.freecad.org/Import_OpenSCAD_code

For my use I found an Prusa Mk3 assembly on GrabCAD I used the parts from that model.
