I find the Bed heater red LED a touch annoying

So I have been thinking of a possible cover for it that would tone it down a bit.

It would seem to require a low profile so a simply shaped campfire of little logs would be one look; a problem though, how much clearance above the heater leads cover do we have to play with in that area during probing or printing in that corner of the build space?

Small slits between the logs to emit enough light without being over whelming... perhaps something like the smaller one in this image without the flames ?

I wanted to say, "Put a towel over it, Bucko" but I'm not sure anyone would get the reference... 🙄

Wouldn't a piece of tape work, or are you intentionally trying to convert your build plate into a diorama? 🙂

That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!

Sure a bit of Kapton tape in however many layers you like to dim it enough is the easy way and that is what I am using right now (6 layers)

Part of the fun of a 3D printer is dreaming up stuff to do with it. in my case the practical aspect, and its justification in my budget, is making things to aid in the fitting up for clamping of oddly shaped items in my machine shop... A lot of what I do in making parts for antique restorations that I do for local dealers. These things can be hard to clamp up. Eventually I want to get into lost PLA sand casting of some parts... which rough castings have to be clamped up in the machines for milling/drilling/ turning to final finished part. At that point we can print a negative of the part to have a perfect fixture for the new casting.... I think ABS will be the material for that.

I was thinking a small piece of electrician’s tape.

reprint the bed wire cover, but modify the STL first to add a little cover over it. you WANT that light, its an indicator that you are running a heater and a safety measure and should not be bypassed. but... its your house

and we’ll be saying a big hello to all intelligent life forms everywhere … and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys.

I am fine with the light as an info source but it is very bright and annoying so I considered something fun and clever to tone it down... in the end multiple layers of kapton tape (the lazy fix) have done the job. 😉

I had some of these stickers left over from dimming the leds on my home theater gear.

Works pretty well.
