Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

I have some problematic PETG which the sensor struggles to see.

True enough the new engine said that it was hard to read and offered me the option to disable thr sensor.

After the print i tried to load new filament and noticed the sensor was now off, so i had to renable it again.. i assumed the auto disable feature would only turn the sensor off until you unloaded the filament,

Its hardly a big deal, but what about giving the option for filment sensor as On, Off or Auto? Where in auto mode, it checks each time you load filament and offers you the option to turn it on/off as required?

hi Jakub have tried it that's why I turned it off my mk3 has printed amazing from the day I built it and I always read the forums on what seems to work and not I have loaded the latest firmware and use what works I am used to not having a filament sensor from my early printing with a wanhau i3 plus the mk 3 is light years ahead of it but was a good learning machine cheers pete

filament censor is always turned off not worth screwing a print up

Try it with the new sensor engine 2.0 😉

See my earlier post. It's still having issues and causing some crazy behavior after it triggers. I'd recommend still keeping it off (I know I will be).

I just updated the firmware to this and the printer acts very weird, it'd like it doesn't follow the G-code. It prints really slow and the print fan is not spinning.

Same issue with sensor now !! I had some problem with the previous firmware and the PETG i use ! during many print no problem then start to ask me change the filament !!! so i change and print and ask change .....so I set up sensor OFF

Now i upgrade firmware check the both pulley, the filament sensor , screw back all

Filament sensor ON . But then tried and nothing happen !!

Filament sensor logic issue here, but different from those already reported.

I was away when it falsely tripped, so I showed up and the printer had cooled down with the "Press knob to preheat nozzle".

Once preheated, I got the usual unload prompt. I received the new "filament sensor degraded perfomance" message, so I confirmed disabling it. I followed the prompt to reload the filament and confirmed the successful change.

From here, the print resumed at proper temp, but then halted at temperature. I had to reset the printer and trash the print.

I'm running a MK3 with Octopi on a Pi Zero W, otherwise a stock machine.

Hope this helps!

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

I can confirm this 3.4.0-1327 software randomly pauses for a second or so, mid printing. This is printing from SD card and sliced using Slic3r PE 1.41.0+linux64
This is with the filament sensor switched on and with black PLA filament loaded which never has any sensing issues previously.

Tried switching off the filament sensor mid print and so far, no more pauses. I think the filament sensing code is pausing the printer briefly perhaps?

Gonna flash back down to the previous stable release 3.3.1 after my print is complete.

I too have experienced the problems mentioned in nearly every post plus one more. When switching to stealth mode in the previous version, it worked well, quiet and reasonably fast. When switching to stealth mode in the latest version, the print head moves a snail pace, nearly stopping.

I am definitely returning back to the previous version and wait for corrections. It would be great to have this all resolved before I receive my MMU.

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

me again..

one more point i found , as mentionned before i load the previous firmware and set up filament sensor ON and work but then after a while , printer ask me change filament !! so i put filament sensor OFF again

Am pretty sure there is problem with SLIC3R as i used for my G-code and since it asking me oftently to load out the filament and change !! it's maybe an idea !!!

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

I just had a failure that I think is linked to the new Filament Sensor Engine.

I had some black PETG filament loaded that I know causes problems with the sensor, but when I loaded it, I chose to keep the sensor on.

I was printing via Octoprint and got an error saying the filament couldn't be read (Normal behavior)

I unloaded and then reloaded, and during the load I was asked if I wanted to switch the sensor off, which which I selected YES.

The extruder moved back and I assumed started printing, but when I went back to look it had stopped.. When I looked at Octoprint, the printer was offline because of "too many timeouts".

I am using s3d for my prints it works fine apart from the known faulty sensor

The Homing calibration / Z adjustment is not responding in realtime. I believe this could be do to some hangup somewhere in the firmware. I bet what is causing this is also causing other issues people are seeing. I would recommend checking the timing of all your functions and macros.

You are not alone. Same setup. Same failure.
Except I had white PLA loaded.

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release

-I am printing keychains at 12 at a time. It takes 6:03 at 100 % speed and I bumped it to 200% which it tells me 3:01 time is remaining. Well it printed fine but the print time was 5:09? Did I miss something as like others my MK3 pauses for a second or so? I have all the latest updates
So is this a software problem or did I not hit a proper key?
Thanks

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

I can confirm the issue from tim.c10.... it was printing perfectly... then it didnt detect filament... so it paused... i changed the filament... it went back to its last position..but just sit there... then in the menu i saw the option resume... i pressed resume... it homed really slow like really slow... and then went back to the print with different Z height and another position therefore destroying the print on its way....

I seem to be having the same issue or a related one but it is a little different on my MK2.5s. I use octoprint, and on both of them after the sensor detects no filament, I feed in a new spool click yes, the extruder moves back to where it left off and stops, then the Raspberry Pi gets disconnected. The printer freezes with the heaters on melting the last print position and LCD says its ready. I have to reset to get back to normal. So since the upgrade, it's happend on both printers, I guess I need to downgrade or go old school and just not use the filament sensor.

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

First time since I own the printer (8 month) I need to disable the filament sensor to avoid print error, also first time I have trouble with the SD card, (no card inserted) error at mid print, no errors with octoprint.

I encountered theses problems since the flash to 3.4.0, otherwise everything seems to be fine.

I have 6 MK3s on a circuit backed by cyberpower 1500KVA UPS. On that same circuit I have a Brother HL22700 laser printer that I use for invoices. Every day when I sit down to batch print invoices, my UPS will report the momentary ....

hello,

Please not that it is against best practices to put a laser printer (which draws lot of current) on a UPS. That will caue much more troubles than solve.
regards,
Julien

Re: Firmware 3.4.0 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 (final release)

It's not actually on the UPS, it's on the same circuit as the UPS (parallel). The trip is caused by the drop in AC volts when the Laser Printer warms up.

The 6 Prusa's are split on 2 UPS with the printer residing on it's own leg.
