Pronterface...Achieved near perfect bed MK3

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share this.
After I ran G80 and G81 with the pronterface(found in "program files/prusa3d/pronterface") I notice by bed was not as perfect as I would have liked. These were the results:

0,52583 0,50111 0,47444 0,44583 0,41528 0,38278 0,34833
0,42083 0,37389 0,33272 0,29731 0,26769 0,24383 0,22574
0,33472 0,27438 0,22460 0,18537 0,15670 0,13858 0,13102
0,26750 0,20259 0,15009 0,11000 0,08231 0,06704 0,06417
0,21917 0,15852 0,10920 0,07120 0,04454 0,02920 0,02519
0,18972 0,14216 0,10191 0,06898 0,04336 0,02506 0,01407
0,17917 0,15352 0,12824 0,10333 0,07880 0,05463 0,03083

You can see the the variance from the front and back. This concerned me because I could achieve beautiful results with smaller prints in the middle of the bed, but I had issues with large or multiple parts spread across the bed.

I tried loosening the frame are re-aligning without any success.

Then I thought that shimming the bed could be the solution. 3mmx0.1mm metal shims are rather expensive so I PRINTED my own shims out of ABS:)

So after a couple hours of adding around 1 to 4 shims under most of the standoffs and running G80 the G81, I achieved this:

0.15500 0.18380 0.20046 0.20500 0.19741 0.17769 0.14583
0.13676 0.12937 0.12622 0.12731 0.13264 0.14221 0.15602
0.12731 0.09616 0.07996 0.07870 0.09240 0.12104 0.16463
0.12667 0.08417 0.06167 0.05917 0.07667 0.11417 0.17167
0.13481 0.09338 0.07135 0.06870 0.08545 0.12159 0.17713
0.15176 0.12382 0.10900 0.10731 0.11876 0.14332 0.18102
0.17750 0.17546 0.17463 0.17500 0.17657 0.17935 0.18333

Remarkable improvement. The center is a little low but this is because I've left that standoff out for now. It was tricky to get back in with the shims but I'll try again. I think the solution would be to print a "long" shim then cut the handle off afterwards(if that make sense)

Last thing, if you are +-0.08mm out, you can tighten the screw a little more to squash the plastic shims.
Not sure if heat will have an affect of the plastic shims and distort. Time will tell.

I'm not too sure how to attached my shim.stl file? help.....

Cheers

B

This can be achieved using the PrusaMeshMap in Octoprint. I shimmed my bed to a less than .08mm variance and still have first layer inconsistencies across the bed... When I get a little time I plan on trying to figure out how to disable automatic bed leveling and see what I get when I print without it.
