All and all, the upgrade kit is not a bad priced upgrade.

@cwbullet

Not at all, I just finished the upgrades and although the printer was working fine, it appears to be better.

  1. I did the extruder upgrade right after the files were available. Better cooling and the better fan shroud.
  2. Although not required I did the x-axis upgrade, belt tension adjustment easier.
  3. The best part is the y-axis upgrade, after adding the clips are the rod holders. My skew is now 0.03, well within tolerance.

Now, I'm in the process of completing the calibration routines, but it looks great!

Good to hear.  I might slowly upgrade mine.  I have one kit and another on the way.

I think so too, if you add up the effort and the material.

There could've been a set of mitsumi bearings to replace the ones that have been rolling along for a year. I simply cleaned the bearings in a zip lock bag of IPA, then regressed them.

The machine is quieter so I suppose they needed regreasing.

@cwbullet

I checked with Extrudr. Unfortunately, there is no distributor in the US at this time, but they would offer a 30% discount for shipping to the US.

original message:

Hallo Karl,

Falls du Interesse hast, einfach per Mail melden.

Grüße

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

RE: Fan shrouds melting too often

It's been awhile, thought I post an update.

I've been using the following Fan Shroud with success:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4106196

Printed it in PETG and now also use a sock

Haven't had any issues since 🙂

I know I'm a bit late to the discussion, but after reading this thread I thought I'd share the duct I've been using. I printed the first one with PETG and it held up great through 100+ hours of printing (PLA/PETG), has a little extra clearance from the heater block and a support arm so both sides are properly supported. The only downside I've found is that it's a bit bulky compared to stock which makes it a little harder to see the nozzle when close to the bed.

Printing a new one in Polymaker PC-Max now:

Hope that helps someone, and kudos @kalleknall for the remix!

I've been using Extrudr GreenTec Pro for my fan shrouds since more than a year and never had any temperature problems with it.

RE:

I used Polymaker CoPA ( https://eu.polymaker.com/product/polymide-copa/) = PA6 / PA6.6 blend.

This stuff has the Vicat softening temperature ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicat_softening_point) at  180°C, I highly recommend this for the fan shroud.

For comparison: Vicat softening temperatures:

  • PLA 63°C
  • PETG 84°C
  • ABS 104°C
  • PC 130°C
