Black grease on leadscrews

I have black grease on both leadscrews on one of my MK3+.  I'm guessing this is just dirt and grime.  I greased them some weeks ago but maybe I shouldn't have?  Suggestions?

RE: Black grease on leadscrews

I've heard that using the wrong sort of grease can degrade the plastic in the lead screw nuts. Maybe that's what's happening. Mine are kind of dark that way too (from before official Prusa Lubricant was a thing), but they're still working fine. (But I've purchased spare nuts in case I need to replace them.)

That's perfectly normal. As you assumed, it's a mixture of grease, dust and abrasion. No need to worry.

Better run your linear bearings greased than dry.

Thanks for the help. I figured it was because 2 cats, open door printing room, litter boxes in close proximity was probably the cause.
