Bed Adhesion

My prints recently stopped adhering to the bed, the fulfillment on the first layer tears, lifts up or folds back on itself. I have cleaned the bed with acetone and IPA, I have re calibrated the xyz, re calibrated the z height and nothing. Any ideas?

I'm also using the PE Slic3r with default settings for the mk3

Re: Bed Adhesion

Some pictures of failed first layers would be good. It may not have to do with the PEI, but more with your Z offset.

Who says to you that you should use Aceton??? Aceton kills your PEI sheet

Try washing it with dish soap and hot water, just like you wash your dishes. Dry it off with a clean towel, and don't put anything else on the bed. This procedure works like magic for me and many others...

No not true. Acetone on occasion refreshed the stick of the PEI.

Re: Bed Adhesion

Overuse of acetone will make your PEI sheet brittle and will cause damage over time. Acetone should be a last ditch effort if 90%+ Iso alcohol, windex, or dish soap do not work.

In his guide for new users, Prusa himself says to use acetone about once a week to revitalize the print surface:

Dish soap residue sounds like it would be a bond breaker, so I have doubts that it would be wise to use it.

That coming from someone who obviously has not tried it, vs. the many of us who have. YES, it works, NO, it leaves no residue. That's because you RINSE when done.

Well, I don't see dish soap as one of Tom Sanlanderer's recommendations: https://toms3d.org/2017/05/08/guide-restoring-maintaining-pei-printbed/
I guess that must be because he hasn't tried it either. 😉

Re: Bed Adhesion

When 90% IPA doesn't work anymore, I lightly scrub the bed unheated with the firm side of a new kitchen sponge. I just scuffs it enough without "sanding" through the PEI. Clean it off with 90% and it's just like new

Re: Bed Adhesion

Occasional application of Acetone is what I use. It certainly brings back the bed adhesion close to new.

When PLA is no longer sticking, it's time for an Acetone bath 😉

Re: Bed Adhesion

After my upgrade to MK2.5 i couldnt get anything to stick properly.
(yes, LIve-Z was good).

I washed the PEI with soap and water, cleaned it with Acetone and then 99% IPA. Now everything sticks as good as the old MK2S PEI.
Got the feeling that the PEI maybe wasnt totally clean when delivered.
