Very thick wires on first layer calibration test + printing models fails with first layer moving from bed

Model : MK3S+
Firmware : prusa3d_fw_3_12_2_MK3S
Printer was assembled and prepared at Prusa and received "ready to print"

We did the full wizard calibration. After that step we used "First Layer Calibration" and the result is very bad
You can see it here : https://ibb.co/W6R6NsW

It does not look at all like the manual says it should. And we dont know what to do.
We have done the wizard twice. We have the the first layer calibration twice.

Close-up of the result of the first calibration test : https://ibb.co/BykbWn2
https://ibb.co/pxJPD51

We checked the manual and it doesnt look at all like in the manual picture : https://ibb.co/7YnmzYD
Our version is much smaller and not as wide.

We then checked the printer but the options to configure talk of a left and so son
And the manual does not explain this and what to do : https://ibb.co/KWbGSRR

We tried to print a foot for a keyboard because we have to repair a K120  keyboard foot.
The plan we tried to use is there : https://www.printables.com/model/191591-logipied-logitech-k120-foot

The result was the piece starts moving from the bed and the wires that get dropped on the bed dont look good at all :

Please help ! 🙁

We did a full isopropyl alcohol cleaning and the result is even worse :

They do get shaken up in transit sometimes...

Yout first layer 'Z' calibration is far too high, don't be afraid to rotate the dial several times when setting it.

At the end of the calibration you are aiming to print a single layer *sheet*. It should be possible to peel it off in one and fold it without the threads seperating. If it breaks into lines it is too high, not squished enough. If it is a single sheet but with wavy lines or drag marks on it you are too low.

If the calibration value goes beyond -2 then come back and we'll look at your sensor position but it should be OK.

Many beginners have problems with the built-in first layer calibration routine. There are alternatives, see this page by a regular poster here: http://www.muppetlabs.co/3dprinting_mk3_live_z_calibration.html

and look at this thread: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

Cheerio,

RE:

We did a full nozzle cleaning with the needle.
We tried the Z calibration and went to -1 and minus -1.5
-1 gives : https://ibb.co/LQyBvVS
-1.5 gives : https://ibb.co/cYBtYBc

We are trying to print the keyboard foot again ! 🙂

We did print the replacement piece and it seems ok.

Can you confirm me we are not too low ? I went to -1.5 and I am a bit afraid it's quite low, being a newbie.

Here is the result : https://ibb.co/VqDFBFD

The -1.5 is looking pretty good.  Suggest you print a bigger 1-layer print like https://www.printables.com/model/105404-live-zfirst-layer-calibration-strip   The larger size and tick marks give you plenty of time to make small adjustments while printing.

If you go too low, it'll start to look and feel rough.  Back off a bit till smooth again and you should be good to go.

That's amazing, thank you 🙂

I'm gonna try that proper calibration thing.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Don't worry about the -1.5 number. If it gets above -2 then you're better to adjust the PINDA sensor and start again.

When I swapped between the smooth print bed and the textured my Z went from around -0.8 to -1.8 or so because that plate is thinner.
