Thin/Stringy Layer

Running an MK3S with 0.4mm nozzle. PETG

Can anyone tell me why my first layer is so stringy and thin in some sections and not in others, per the attached image?

Looks like you need to adjust the live-Z to be a lot lower.

How do you adjust z?  Is it just the first layer calibration?

Your first layer 'Z' calibration needs to go lower, more squish.

At the end of the calibration you are aiming to print a single layer postage stamp sized *sheet*. It should be possible to peel it off in one and fold it without the threads seperating. If it breaks into lines like your example it is too high, not squished enough. If it is a single sheet but with wavy lines or drag marks on it you are too low.

For most people it pays to use 7x7 mesh bed levelling.

Cheerio,
