RE: The ends curl up on first layer

With PEI sheets, there is no need to use any glue or similar.  All that is required is to clean the sheet so there is no oil present.  But some people are afraid of soap and water and refuse to take the sheets to the sink for a good wash.

I was trying to print the MK3S LCD cover with Prusa PETG. I tried IPA, Soap and water, and Hairspray and they didn't work. I kept getting a bit of curling. I finally did what Prusa said to do and used Windex. It worked, go figure, haha. I did still get a couple of curls though.

Windex is a release agent useful for PETG, not a cleaner for beds. You spritz some on, wipe it around to ensure a smooth layer, and let it dry as a film.

In general, clean the bed with alcohol between every print.  I suggest you let the alcohol sit on a cooled bed for 10 seconds before wiping it off.  Once every 1-2 days, clean the bed with Dawn and water.  I handle the bed with cotton gloves to avoid finger prints.

RE: The ends curl up on first layer

We  all develop our own 'Proven' techniques... eventually! 🙂

Or give up 3D printing forever!

I am away from home with my printer and have been having frustrating issues with my PETG Prints...
Mk3s, Stickered smooth PEI, Billy Nomates unbranded PETG and the second half of a project which has a mirror image contact patch of the first successful print.
I tried detergent, and IPA...    in various combinations  with no luck...

so, I made sure that the PEI sheet was clear of all filament, took the Kapton tape off the purge line area, turned the sheet over, washed the surface with Fairy and water...    And ...

Immediate success...      This was the first build plate that I got with my first Mk3, and I have been using it on the first side only, since I got it...
the second side has always been kept in reserve...    and it saved my bacon last night...
this print has six nuts embedded at three different levels so it was  frustrating that I wasted so much time trying to get the first side of the PEI t stick, got to bed late this morning...    after inserting the last nuts...

the print is complete and successful this morning...

Joan

I only print PLA, petg, TPU, TPE

I have tried and rejected

ABS milk,

Glue Stick

Painters tape,

Hair Spray

Dilute PVA adhesive

and various derivatives

I do fine Windex, Talc and forehead grease help reduce over adhesion for PETG and TPU/TPE
and if you get over adhesion,  spraying IPA around the print / printbed joint line, helps release stuck prints...

other people have their own hocus pocus...      I am prepared to take the risk of water damage on an expendable item, as one occasional side effect of washing...     so far, none of my build plates show any rusting...  (always dry immediately after washing!)

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK
