Spare parts questions
- For the spare parts, all of them should be printed in black even the parts that come in orange in the kit?
- Which parts should be printed first either because they're most important to the printer's operation or because they're the most likely to fail?
- Here https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/57217-original-prusa-i3-mk3s-printable-parts it says to use "PrusaSlicer's default PETG 0.2mm presets". What print head should be used?
- It also says "For fan-shroud part, please use Prusament ASA / PC-Blend". I don't see a Prusament ASA/PC-Blend in the shop. Only ASA and PC-Blend. Which one is it?
RE:
I can see at least 4 Prusament ASA colors on e-shop.
The color does not matter the material yes.
Nozzle diameter 0.4 mm is expected.
If you want to be 100% sure you should prinall of them. But nevertheless unless you passed through a serious accident (fire) the part degradation will allow you to print the critical part. In worst case you can ask buddy nearby to print it out and send it to you.
even an old man can learn new things 🙂

Does ASA shrink as much as ABS?
I did some test prints in ABS for replacement parts, and they measure around 1% shorter in all axes than the PETG parts. Figure they'll have to be sized up a bit to avoid problems with tolerances, but perhaps switching over to ASA would make this a non-issue.
RE: Spare parts questions
hello
You don't need to print them all...
Get some ABS, print the shroud. Don't worry about the shrinkage - it is designed to be printed in ASA or ABS. All high temp filaments shrink some.
For color, no, only the filament sensor parts (holder, lid) should be printed in a dark (black is good) color. The rest can be any color you like.
As for spares ... I'd recommend the shroud. A nozzle brush. The service shelf. The standoff holder tool. And a good scraper.
RE: Spare parts questions
After the original fan shroud deformed while printing a long run of ABS prints, I printed a remixed one in PC Blend and it has not deformed since.
I also printed spares of all other extruder parts in ABS in case I should have an unfortunate meltdown.
I had originally planned to, if I needed spares, to book time on a machine at our local makerspace, but Covid hit and they closed, so I printed them to be sure I had them if I needed them.
