Self test - extruder touches right side of bed

The bed is a little out on the right side. I run calibration. The left side is fine, but on the right side the paper moves In the front right corner, it scrapes pretty bad. Can you recommend a doc that will show me how to adjust the bed?

Thank you!

Noob Peter

The bed is mounted from the factory, but it may happen that some screws are lose. You will need star-shaped head screwdriver, I do not recall size though 🙁

Also it is possible that when mounting XZ assembly, you tightened screws too much or too little. Since this printer does not have solid metal to metal connection but rather you screw it to the frame thorough plastic part, there may be issue with skew. Check this post: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/avoiding-early-prusa-mini-issues-common-issues/#post-182742 Same goes for back to front skew, mine was sloping down to the front slightly.

Edit: Oh and if you do the self-test wizard, put steel sheet on, it does not say in handbook or manual or on screen. You may run into bed thermal runaway fault when going through self-test wizard.

Like @crawlerin said, it may not be the bed, but the entire X/Z axis assembly. It doesn't necessarily mean you tightened things incorrectly as that is simply not a precision interface.

Mine was like this (i estimate 4mm higher on the right side) but mine passed the self test and I didn't notice for days.

The solution was to slacken all 3 screws holding both halves together.. Then give everything a wiggle... And then do the screw up at the top fairly tight.. Followed by the long screw on the side.. And then the shorter one.

I had to do it a few times, but eventually I got it pretty square... I still need to measure it but its printing very well now so I will probably leave it.

Thank you crawlerin, pete-b3 and jweaver for your kind responses. This was a complete purchase - I did not assemble the printer, so I haven't wrenched anything yet. I'll review the docs and let you know how it goes.

Not to spam, but here's what I did tonight to get mine mostly squared up.

@pemurray

You bought MINI completely assembled? Was it second-hand? Or you mean that MINI comes in a box in 3 parts partially assembled and you put it together, like in this video:

@crawlerin

Thanks for your reply. I bought it factory assembled. I placed it on a table (after many months sitting in the box) and ran calibration.

I am not talking about any kind of disassembly.. i am just talking about the 2 halves of the printer that you had to put together yourself....

That said, now you own a 3D printer you had better get yourself a set of tools. Disassembly and maintenance is part of the sport and this wont be the first time you need to do this kind of  work on it,

Wait, couple months? Printer hasn't been out for too long... what printer did you actually buy? Picture or video in first post would have helped. Oiginal i3 MK3S assembled or Original Prusa MINI? Did you buy it from Prusa shop?

If you bought MK3S, you are in incorrect forum section and we both waste our times by trying to help you with the printer you don't have. This is MINI forum. You will get better advice in MK3S forum. https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3/ If you bought MINI pre-assembled couple months ago then probably it is not Original Prusa MINI because they don't come assembled.

I may have added this topic on the wrong part of the forum. I own an i3 MK3S. I apologize if I screwed up. Should I repost?

RE: Self test - extruder touches right side of bed

Hi,

Thanks for all the responses. I re-calibrated, and this time, the head touches the paper, but I can hold the paper steady and the head still moves. I've tried to do a first layer calibration. It runs, but when the extrusion part of the test begins it only draws the first 2 1/2 lines. After that, the filament lifts from the print bed, the print head catches the filament and the filament then builds up on the print head.

I tried cleaning the print head with a brass wire brush, then did two cold pulls to see if there was something clogging the print head. The cold pulls appeared to be successful.

I successfully upgraded to driver 3.8.1-2869 using PrusaSlicer.

I then re-tried first layer calibration, but I still got thin filament print and eventually, the filament lifts, sticks to the printhead and the printhead gets stuck with a glob of filament.

I ran the temperature calibration test. It appeared to work.

I just re-ran the XYZ calibration test. It worked! No binding and the test seemed to calibrate fine. What's different? It's finally warming up here where I live (~23C here today).

SO, I tried the first layer test. The filament looks fine when it first starts extruding and asks if it's extruding properly, and the first line prints well. However, it left a thin bit of filament as the head moved to the back of the print bed. It began to draw fine, but the first move to a closer line did not line up properly, and as it continued, the filament came loose and I had filament clotting up on the print head again.

I guess it's time to start a new thread to deal with the extrusion problem I'm having. Thank you all for your excellent help!

Peter
