Replacing the X end motor-idler and tightening the X axis belt

My x and y belts are loose so I tried to tighten my x axis belt with the tension screw on the x end motor idler, I tightened the screw too much and snapped a piece off.

I've got the replacement piece but I can't work out how to change it I think I need to remove the extruder then x axis, replace the piece then put everything back together following the assembly guide.
My main question is how do I remove the extruder? Do I need to open the electronics and unplug all the connections before unscrewing both sides of the extruder and removing it?

Thanks in advance!

If you loosen the two screws holding the enclosure to the frame you'll have just enough room to pull out the plug for the x motor and then remove the whole x axis. I personally put the belt on before remounting the x axis. I also had to trim the belt a few mm because I went from the old style to the new style motor holder.
