Rattle noise
I recently got the Mk3 kit, it's assembled and the first prints have been more or less flawless imo. At the moment I'm printing the Venus box from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1559232
While printing the cover I could her a rather deep rumbling noise from time to time. I tried to capture the sound, although it can be even more pronounced at times. You hear the sound from 7 seconds:
I have not done any troubleshooting yet, as I don't really know what to check. The belts are not perfectly aligned as that was a real pain, could that be a possible source? At the right side of the model you can also see a spot/line/mark (whatever 😀 ) What can cause such imperfections? could it be the rattle noise (vibrations) ?
I used Slicer Prusa ed. with optimal settings and raft.
Re: Rattle noise
Just want to clear this up. It was most probably the fast and very short movement of the bed that made this strange noise. Probably nothing wrong 😎
Re: Rattle noise
In my case it was the slighly lifting of the heatbed / y-carriage.
This "rattling" is caused by the internal bearing clearance.
It geht´s a little bit better if you reach the "sweet spot" when you tighten the u-bolts.
Even with Igus or Misumi (try´d or used both) bearings, it is still there and rattling.
At the moment i use Misumis and a good portion of bearing grease inside the bearing.
For the moment i´m fine with it, but not perfectly satisfied.

Re: Rattle noise
I try´d something just a few minutes ago that eliminated the rattling noise.
But you have to be very sensitive.
Slide the heatbed all to the Front.
Loosen the two screws from one of the front y rod holders.
Push it with just a very very small force to the outside and tighten the screws.
Make sure the bearings slide free like they did before.
If this does not eliminate your rattling, repeat it with the same side rod holder on the back.
Thats it.
Your little wonder mashine should now be all quiet on the y axis.
I can now hardly hear it from the room next door.

Re: Rattle noise
Great! I was just about to post more about this noise. The current print has a very bad rattle noise, strange that it even prints straight lines 😕
I will check and perform the tips you are mentioning. Thanks a lot!
It truly is a little wonder machine! It just need some TLC it seems, next on the list is PSU vibration noise.... 🙄

Thanks for the great tip! I was having this rattle problem when the bed moved and found your comment. Your solution completely fixed it. I can't hear a thing any more!

It's great to hear that such an old post is read and then this problem can also be solved.

RE: Rattle noise solved again
Thank you for your adivice, helped me a lot. I tried every other possibility for hours and hours, bearings, lubrication, thight and loose screws... could have been just 4 screws. To help others with the same problem I try to explain what I did and what my problem was:
My Problem was the same as described in the post above, rattling noise while the y-axis was moving. Sound was from the bearings, but printer and bearings are new, so I couldnt believe it was faulty bearings. Problem startet at the very beginning after the assembly, nothing helped, print quality was always fine, so not so much of an issue. But still, there was a sound no other printer made, even compared to the exact same model, so i investigated.
Long story short, with the adivce of kai i tried to find out if this small movement of the linear rail would solve my problem. I went for a litte testprint with rectangles on the top and bottom of the printbed to have the rattle but still to have some time touching and pressing the linear rails. After a few tries for me the right rail holder in the front seemed to solve the problem, after a slight press downwards the print becomes silent. After stopping the print i loose and tighten the screws with a litte downward pressure on the holder and tested again. Much better. After repeating the process with the backside holder, the rattle was gone. 🙂
RE: Rattle noise
Thank you so much...
Tried Right-front: no real improvement; Right-rear: still nothing noticeable; Left-front... Instantly fixed. ❤️
