Printing issues on larger models.

I was lucky enough to be gifted an unused i3 MK3.  I have set it up to the best of my understanding and I can print small items very well but large ones are causing me a problem.  I have downloaded PrusaSlicer to do the slicing.

What is happening is excess material is being collected on the print head and placed as large blobs on the print, this seems to happen far more on areas of the model that the print head is jumping about on rather than larger flat areas, and the blobs often stall the print head and ruin the print.

I have tried a new E3D hardened nozzle (some came with it).  I have tried both PLA and PETG, both in new sealed bags.  Even though the cube test prints 0.4mm +- 0.05 walls, it still appears like it is extruding too much material and so I reduced the extruder multiplier to 0.9 but this made no difference.

If the blobs don't stall the printer they all pick off afterwards but you can see in the pictures below the excess is rather a lot.  The grey is PETG and the white PLA was printed afterwards and you can see traces of the grey PETG in the blobs that have come from the print head.

So what do you suggest this newbie tries to stop this excess material be placed all over larger models?

Thank You.

This is almost always the result of a wrongly installed nozzle - just occasionally it's a wrong length non E3D nozzle...

If you look closely you will probably find that molten filament is running down from the top of the heatblock.

Pay particular attention to the diagrams at the bottom of this page:

RE: Printing issues on larger models.

Thank you Diem.

My hot end was indeed put together wrongly and when I removed it there was more than a little seepage onto the top and dribbling down the sides of the heat block.  While scraping the excess off the heat block I damaged the thermistor (patience is a virtue) and I have had to order a new one.  I will post in a few days how it goes but you were stop on, this hot end was built the wrong way and was leaking everywhere.

Thanks again for the help.
