hi chaps and any ladies. I am having real problems here. I have sorted out the first line and that looks ok. but when I go to print an object. the filament is sliding around all over the place. I have cleaned the print bed, but nothing I can think off stops the filament sliding around. I am using S3D, I have reduced the print speed for the 1st layer is there anything else I can do. what speeds are you all using. is there anyway of improving the stick of the steel bed which is very smooth, maybe Prusa should of added some texture to the bed to help filament stick.

That sounds like an adhesion problem. You didn't mention what filament you're using, but I'd suggest sticking with PLA until you get things figured out.

  • Make sure the bed is clean. Avoid touching it at all costs. A good wash and rinse with dishwashing detergent is recommended to start. If you're printing with PLA filament, 91% or higher Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) is recommended for routine cleaning. If you are having adhesion issues after some use, you can use Acetone, but not too often. The key is not to touch the bed between prints if at all possible. If your bed is not clean, there is nothing you can do that will fix it. The little included pads are only good for one cleaning, and aren't particularly good (70% IPA). Window cleaner isn't ideal either, but may work in a pinch. Don't bother with other fixes until you're sure the bed is clean.

  • If you're positive the bed is clean, your Live-Z adjustment may be off. Look for the life adjust Z - my way post. It includes some ready-to-print gcode files that are easier to adjust than the built-in Z calibration routine. (WARNING: They make loud beeping sounds.) Start at 0 and adjust downwards (more negative numbers) until you get good adhesion. The key is that the lines should stay down even if you rub (e.g. drag something across) them as they print. You can use coarse (-50) adjustments at first until it gets close. As the lines start to stick, adjust downwards gradually until the surface looks right.

  • Avoid making additional adjustments in your slicer software (S3D), at least until you get some prints working. You can wind up with software adjustments over-riding and negating your firmware adjustments on the printer itself.

  • If you have problems with prints after getting the Live-Z adjustment set, try slowing the print down. I usually adjust to 80% speed by rotating the front-panel dial as it prints. If this fixes the problem, adjust speeds in your slicer to match. Unfortunately, S3D does not let you adjust the skirt line speed separately, so it'll use the 1st layer speed setting, regardless of what you set for outlines. I set outlines for ~35mm/sec. and 1st layer to 30% until things are working, then adjust speeds upwards.

    • Until you get the 1st layer right, nothing else is going to work, so focus on getting this part figured out and you should be in business.

    I had the same issues until the sheet broke in.
    In addition to the stuff above:
    Use a larger brim setting.
    Use glue-stick.

    I had been expecting this surface to stick like mirror, PEI sheets, blue tape, or other surfaces that I had experience with. It took about 3 days of printing for things to significantly improve. Now Im solid.

    I reduced my brims back down to the defaults in Slicer PE, and its still printing like a champ.
