layershifting consistent between 3rd and 4th layer when doing large prints

hi
i have trouble printing large prints
it always does a layeshift between 3rd and the 4th layer, and i can't really tell why, i have gone through the entire layershifting guide of the MK3
and both belt tentions are around 275.
the shifts are always quite large, atleast 3 mm
any idear what causes this, small prints are prints doesn't seem to have any issue

A photo of the problem really is helpful. Without it, people will only guess.

Does it look anything like the pictures here?

https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/1522

it does look similar to the firmware bug
the attatched photo is made with prusament PETG and was supposed to be 12 squares(openlock floor tiles), but the layer shifting has fused them together, this one shifted twice, around the point where it changes between infil and surface layer
the model is the floor tile seen here https://www.printablescenery.com/product/rampage-castle-trail-pack/
i also tried printing 6 as sequential, but that didn't help, it just made 2 full tiles and a giant blob stuck to the nozzle

i have now tried doing a factory reset, and i'm hoping that will help

you can try turning off your filament sensor if it keeps happening, that has helped in a few cases if this is indeed issue 1522,

Agree with Vintage - the Mk3 filament sensor caused issues is not worth leaving it on. Mine has been off since 3.5.0 dropped. It was mostly off before that, too; but 3.5 seemed to wake the dragon, so to speak, and is always off now.

but if it is a firmware issue that only plagues some machines, have any had a success by replacing some part of the machine?

yes, it's called the Mk3S upgrade 😆

actually my printer is an MK3S

Hmm, that complicates matters. I'm not aware of similar issues with the new sensor... but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Re: layershifting consistent between 3rd and 4th layer when doing large prints

The github error's mentioned earlier seem tangentially related to the filament sensor code ... not necessarily caused by it. And both the Mk3 and Mk3S have filament sensor code that uses interrupts. Turn off the filament sensor to eliminate the possibility. Doing so may not help, but it also won't hurt. And if by chance it does help, the info might make it back to the folks developing the code and lead them in a path to find and fix the real issue.

Another place to check, is the belt drive gears. Make sure one of the set screws is set on the motor shaft flat. If the two screws are on the round of the shaft, they could slip a rotation and grab. Probably not this, but very easy to check.

the belt drive gears was actually an early problem for me, as i found out that the x belt was hitting the side of X-end motor, but i fixed this.

so i did the factory reset and i found out that the filiment sensor had gotten stuck and always returned "1"
but it doesn't seem to have helped

i have noticed that it always seem to crash when near the left side, it can't be that the board is overheating right?

Nothing is impossible, but overheating electronics would be unlikely.

When something is always happening on one side of the bed, it suggests a mechanical problem. Bearings too tight for example, a bent rod, a cable that snags, etc.

In your printer photo, I can't see the E-Axis cable. Normally, the cable comes up out of the EINSY case over into the print area, like the one in this photo.

yes the angle just hides the cable

but i found out one of my computers had the slic3r set to MK3, not remembering where i made the Gcode i tried making a new one
and it has just surpassed where it usually had the issue, hopefully it will keep going until tomorrow
is there a difference between the Gcodes of an MK3 and an MK3S?

Shouldn't be, the filament sensor difference should be transparent to the slicer.
