Inconsistent layer adhesion issue

Just received my i3 MK3S and really happy with it.

Had one or two good prints but then it's started to do weird things during the first layer. Some bits don't stick to the bed or warping on the side.

I've tried:

  • The built in first layer calibration which yield good results on the zig zag print
  • Adjusting the probe height (I read that this could be the cause of inconsistent first layer issues)
  • cleaning the bed

Any help appreciated.

I'm testing this on the textured bed with the generic PLA that came with the printer and default printing temps.

Hi WK,
Did you clean the build plate with Soap and water?  Finger prints are enough to disturb  good adhesion. Dish soap removes grease...
Rinse well with hot water, and dry with clean paper towel!

Are you using 7x7 Mesh Bed Levelling?

Have you tried "Life Adjust 'Z' My Way?"

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

@joantabb

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a more thorough clean and see. I will give jeffjordan's method a go as well.

I have since gotten amazing results from the smooth bed. It's a lot easier to see if the smooth bed is clean or not but I think I might just not have gotten the nozzle close enough to the bed.
