Incomplete First Layer with PRUSA PETG

I'm using the default bed/nozzle temperatures and getting a partially incomplete first later (possibly two layers). The Part is ~50mm diameter and 4mm thick. The images show the issue. I have lightly sanded the part. The majority of the part appears normal.

I have printed similar circular parts with no problems. I'm wondering if the presence of the holes is the cause.

Any help is appreciated.

RE: Incomplete First Layer with PRUSA PETG

Can you please attach a zipped up Prusa Slicer project file to a reply here.  Use File>save Project As.  This will save a .3mf file.  A PS project is a complete snapshot of all your settings as well as the model, modifiers etc.  With one we can slice it just as you are doing and check all the settings and go through the previews.

You must ZIP it up however to attach it as the forum has very limited allowed file types.  3mf or the other common 3d print ones are not allowed.  If you dont zip it then the forum will just silently fail to attach it.

I think your first layer is fine, the part touching the bed has 3 perimeters everywhere visible, so I suspect that you have a steep slope or a fillet on the interior and there's not enough room under it for support (or you haven't added support) and so its printing mid-air.  Without the project though that's just a guess.

As requested, here is the 3mf file. Now that I look at it closely there is a small unsupported recess on the under side that appears like the "incomplete first layer". So my next task is to figure out how add support material - never had to do that - is that done with slicer settings?

RE:

Yes it is.  However a recess that shallow is not going to leave room under it with the required support contact gap.  I would flip the part over, add support to the counterbore holes which has more clearance and will use less support.  If you redesigned the part slightly those counterbore holes could be printed with no support too using a sacrificial bridging patch but that's a job if you are familiar with some design software really.  Also on a part that is basically straight sides any reason for the 0.1 layer height ?

Attached is a modified project with the support needed defined using the support paint tool, I've also adjusted a few things including the support settings for cleaner removal. By using the paint tool to define the precise areas (2 second job using the smart brush) and selecting Supports - For support enforcers only and changing to snug supports you can print with very little support.  If you poke through the hole tops (as oriented) with a suitable screwdriver/Allan key towards the support interface it should just pop right out.

I left it at 0.1 layer height but this thing would print just as well at 0.2 or even 0.3.

The Prusa Knowledge base at https://help.prusa3d.com/article/paint-on-supports_168584 has an article on the basics of supports.

Neophyte - Thanks for taking the time to diagnose this and creating a modified project file.  The reason I opted for the 0.1mm layer height was I thought it might add more precision to the part or improve the finish. I'll increase layer height to 0.2mm.

Many Thanks.
