Help troubleshooting with set up/calibration

So in brief, a friend gave me her Prusa3d MK3 printer. She had only run 2 prints and decided it wasn't for her.

First I updated the drivers as they were out of date.

Next I did the Set Up Wizard (XYZ) - The X and Y passed but during the Z calibration (where you put the paper underneath) the Sensor continually was searching until it touched the paper. At this point I followed the manual and turned off the printer.

Next, I noticed that there was already a filament loaded and that might have been an issue. I followed the instructions but the filament was stuck and wouldn't unload.

At this point a friend who prints told me to try to do a first layer test to see if any filament comes out. The first layer ran without any filament coming out.

She next suggested that I try simply to do a Z calibration. During this Z calibration we noticed some grinding as the Z Axis reached the top of both poles but continued to try to go further.

She doesn't print on a PRUSA so this was as far as she could take me but suggested that I try the forums, in hopes that someone could help me out as I am lost at where to even begin.

If anyone can help point me in the direction to getting this beauty to print I would greatly appreciate it!

Good.

If there is a nub of hardened filament in the nozzle it can interfere..

I followed the instructions but the filament was stuck and wouldn't unload.

This is normal, it uses the step skipping to establish the limit.

We'll try.

It's possible that old filament is baked into the nozzle, first try the unclogging procedures above.

If they don't work, you may have to remove the nozzle, take care, it's easy to do damage unless you follow this page carefully:

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/changing-or-replacing-the-nozzle-mk2-5s-mk3s-mk3s_2069

And it's possible that this, although necessary, won't fix your calibration problem, feel free to come back...

Cheerio,

Wow thank you so much for your time! I will try these steps starting with the clogged nozzle and go from there. I have a slight learning disability so sometimes it's slow for me to research a process on my own but having someone give me the starting steps and being able to figure out where I should start is all I need, so I truly appreciate it.

Ok Diem, I carefully followed your directions expecting to find filament in the PTFE tube, however; it seems that it is stuck in the very top compartment. (or possibly incorrectly loaded?). I am assuming that I should now remove those top two screws and just manually pull the filament out?

From there I will try to unclog the nozzle/bottom portion of the extruder/part

Here is the E axis assembly manual for what I think this is your version:

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/5-e-axis-assembly-spiral-wrap_68920

Check through it to learn how this part is constructed.

When finally closing that cover DO NOT screw it fully home, there are springs inside and the screws tension them to adjust the idler pressure ...

See: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/idler-screw-tension_177367

After that there may be need to fine adjust once the printer is working.

Cheerio,
