First Layer Problem: Wave Patterns

Hello,

I have been struggeling with this issue for a while now. For some reason wave patterns appear on my first layers.

Does someone know what the issue might be?

Happy new year everyone.

I have been playing arround with the Z-Adjust value for a while. Nothing seems to help. If I go too low (low negative number) then it does not stick anymore and it does not seem to help much. If I go too high then this pattern becomes worse.

I am cleaning my steel board with 99,9% IsoPropanol Alcohol.

Start with a good Dawn scrub with copious water. Dry with a clean paper towel. Never touch the print surface.

Try your calibration print now - no IPA this time.

You don't show your print plate, so we can't tell if it is smooth or textured. Dawn scrub is same in either case.

@robert-rmm200

Thank you for your answer. I should have provided more details in my first post.

You can take a look at this pic:

I have a smooth steel sheet. The first pics are with 0.4mm height. The next is with 0.25

As you can see the ripple effect decreases with layer height but never vanishes. I now clean without Ipa and try again but i dont have much hope that this will work.

OK - you are going to get stuck with my standard link:

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

Read that, follow it, and print a nice calibration square (or circle). That might be what your first pictures are...

Post it here and we will see what we come up with. It is a lot easier starting with a known (large) calibration surface.

Side note: Both the smooth and textured build plates are PEI sheets. A steel sheet would be one with no PEI... PEI is the magic.

Yep, what Robert said above...

Your live Z is too low, that is what causes the ripples.  It is too low but not by much, the adjustment should be small, like on or two clicks on the wheel to adjust.  Clicks not rotations.  Like if your live z is -0.500, then try -0.497 or -0.495 and adjust from there.  should be cleared up once you dial it in and the LifeZ thread will help with that.

Strange women, laying in ponds, distributing swords, is hardly a basis for a system of governance!
