First layer calibration ok?

Hi all,

Just wanted some expert eyes to see if my first layer test is passable, please?

Many thanks for looking.

No, way too high. Nozzle needs to go lower. There shouldn't be any gaps between the strands of filament.

I suggest using a calibration strip like https://www.printables.com/model/105404 that lets you test 8 different live z settings in one five minute print.

RE:

I run this when I want to get my Z-offset dialed in. Takes 11 minutes. I now start the Z-offset at -1.6 and I may not have to move it from that value.

The design is such that you can make an adjustment for each section, delimited by those little cuts. So start where you like and adjust by .50 or .10, whatever you like.

This is a result from today on a newly arrived pre-owned machine:

Thank you for posting Paul. I have downloaded the file and will work on it. Being a relative newbie to dialling this in, it's taking me some time (and probably to the amusement of others). But the education is invaluable. 🙂

No one is born knowing this stuff and there aren't a lot of skills that transfer to it…you mostly need patience and some grace. Keep us posted on how you're getting on, because everyone has been where you are, for varying lengths of time. Once you see how it should go, you'll know what to look for every time.

That looks very good. You may find you need to do that for every sheet or type of sheet. My genuine Prusa sheets are -1.6 but my 3rd party ones need to go down -1.825. But it's nice to have something reliable in all of this.
