First layer calibration and Filament ooze

Hey all,

1. I have printed the first layer calibration and found that i have to adjust the Z axis to -0.55 but after the calibration I went to print a file from the SD card and I again had to move the Z axis to -0.55. I have to do this at the start of every print. How do I fix this?

2. I noticed when the nozzle is heating up a lot of filament starts to come out of the nozzle. This is not my first use of a 3d printer and I know that will happen but this is quite a lot (about 40 mm in length from the nozzle down) compared to the other printer I have used and I wanted to know if this happens to anyone else.

Thank you to the two people that assisted with this problem. I talked to a support person and they suggested that the problem is that the board is not holding any memory and they will be replacing the board. Hopefully the new one doesn't have the same problem. The support person also said that this was the first time they have heard of this happening so it is a rare problem but something they will look into.

You must calibrate the first layer with the "First layer calibration" found under the Calibration menu, otherwise your Z-level will not be saved.
Once you have done this calibration you can make further fine adjustments with "Live adjust Z" and that change will be saved automatically.

That filaments come out when the nozzle is heated is very common, and the amount of filaments varies depending on the material and manufacturer.

As stated in my original post I used the "first layer calibration" and have done it multiple times, but it never saves the new setting and I have to use the live adjust at the beginning of every new print.

It also wont save my bed leveling corrections.

Have you completed the on-board Live-Z calibration at least once? You need to let it complete to set a flag in non-volatile storage. Otherwise it'll "drift" much like you're describing. After that, it should retain values.

Isn't that what the first layer calibration does? I followed the new user video step-by-step and when Prusa printed the sign my Z axis went back to the factory zero.
