First layer and leaking issues

I have had the mk3 printer for a year now and after the first month the printer started to have some issues but was still usable as long as I was babying it. The first issue that I still have to this day is leaking out of the nozzle. It is not coming out of the heat block nor between the nozzle and heat block. It simply just leaked out of the nozzle as if it were extruding. At first I thought mby my nozzle had worn out and the hole on the nozzle had gotten to big due to erosion. I changed the nozzle with a steel one and this did not solve my issue. Then I lowered the temp of the nozzle, this help only when nozzle was below 180 but you can't print at 180 with pla so that went out the window.

About 2 weeks ago the filament stopped sticking to the build plate entirely. Before every print I wipe down the build plate with isopropyl alcohol. I just soaked my build plate for 20 min in it and this also didn't help. Then I tried a rough textured build and this didn't help. I soaked this in isopropyl alcohol for about 30 min and it also didn't work.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Also my filament sensor doesn't work and when I have it turned on the print will pause at random times, unload my filament and ask me to load a new one.

RE: First layer and leaking issues

Hi Jake,

divide and conquer...

Turn the filament sensor off. and leave  it till later... (have a look at this post later  https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/filament-auto-loading-doesnt-work/ )

address the heatbed first... if that doesn't work, nothing will work...

You have found that IPA doesn't work for you...   so try something new...

give the buildplate a really good clean with hot water and a small amount of dish soap...     rinse with Hot Water, and dry immediately with plain paper towels. handle the build plate by the edges and you should have your adhesion back again....   do not rub your fingers across the clean build plate.

Please do not use IPA, it hasn't been working for you... no point trying something that hasn't been working and expecting different results

Check that there is no filament on top of the heater block

See the article on changing your nozzle https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/changing-or-replacing-the-nozzle_2069

before you try your next print, raise your extruder to say 100mm. Put a sheet of paper towel on the build plate.

Start the print,  ( I recommend the test file for PLA from the first post in this thread.  https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/ ) to make sure that your Live Z is set correctly...

as the extruder heats up, you can remove any leakage that has appeared out of the  nozzle. just before the printer starts running...

hopefully  if your Nozzle is correctly fitted, and not leaking, you should be able to complete live Z adjustment on the  clean build plate, and then you can look at your filament sensor at your leisure,  there is no rush, because the printer will work without it...

regards Joan
