Filament Sensor Unknown State, Filament Autoload Not Working
I received my new Prusa I3 MK3S on 6/2/2020 and it took me until today to finish it completely due to work and family obligations. I finished and I've done all the self-calibration tests fine and printed the PRUSA logo on the SD card fine. However, I had old filament that was kinked on the spool so I wanted to fix that before I did anymore printing. I unloaded the filament and tried to autoload it again and it won't take in. I have a friend with the same printer near me and we did a screen share over Discord and he said it sounded like my filament sensor was plugged in wrong on the Einsy board. It was not plugged into the wrong pins nor plugged reversed or anything. I then took the lid off the filament sensor area and disconnected the filament sensor the extruder portion and reassembled. We can't seem to get it to show a zero or one in the sensor screen, it always says "unknown state" for the filament. Anyone have any ideas on what I should be looking at? We upgraded from 3.8.1-2869 to 3.9.0 off the website to see if that was the problem. We've also reset and powered completely off and no change.
RE: Filament Sensor Unknown State, Filament Autoload Not Working
I'm not sure I had the same issue, I believe mine loaded in during the calibration, and when I unloaded failed to reload - however the state I think was always 1. There is a little IR spacer that seemed to fix the problem ( https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/8624-mk3s-ir-sensor-spacer-05-mm ) for me. One way you could probably check if this is the issue is to open up your top cover and with everything plugged in loosen the IR sensor screw with your filament still in. On mine it would prompt me to pre-heat and start loading.

Had the same problem, found the solution here:
Also created an spacer and a new cover, you could find here:

Took me several hours to find the solution.
Good luck!
RE: Filament Sensor Unknown State, Filament Autoload Not Working
Well, the IR sensor spacer did not fix the issue on my Filament Sensor Unknown State problem. I've also gotten a new IR sensor and it also did not work. I think I am going to have to pull the build apart and see if I have a pinched wire or something at this point.

@mmcgurty
Did you ever find the problem? I all of a sudden started getting loading errors with my MK3S/MMU2S. Under support, I get the 'unknown state' for the IR sensor state... I've taken everything apart, and never could get that state to change. I assume a failed sensor?
