Filament Auto Feed, filament sensor, E-Motor...?????

Fully assembled, All calibrations and test pass until I get to Auto Feed the Filament.

Auto Feed Filament - filament is cut to a nice point - doesn't start the E-Motor, the E-Motor will turn manually.

These are the things I have checked
E-Motor gear is centered on the filament and tight on the motor shaft

Tension to the Extruder-idler has been changed multiple times

E-Motor plug and Filament sensor plugs have been checked and are properly installed

Filament sensor cable has been checked and is properly installed

I can get photos if these will help....

Should I consider that the Filament sensor is blown?
Does any of the calibrations or test (before autoload filament) test the E-Motor and Filament Sensor??

HELP.....

I would first check if the filament sensor works properly. If the filament is loaded, the LCD should show the value 1, after removing the filament the value should be 0.

Is it the zero right above the MK3S?

@lonelymonkdeck

LCD -> Support -> Sensor info

Did the filament sensor troubleshooting.

The sensor is working.

I think this screw was to tight

I tested the sensor repeatedly during reassembly. It still works...

Went to settings, turned on auto load filament. The sensor goes from 0->1->0....

Still not loading....

I think it's time to make sure the E-Motor is working

In the menus,

--   Is Filament Sensor enabled?
--   Is Autoload enabled?

If those two are both enabled, you need to insert filament past the ball in the filament sensor before the printer starts the autoload process. And, if you can manually load filament, the motor is okay.

I check the E-Motor cable, not kinks or breaks. Check it's circuit board plug, that's correct...

I put a white spot on the motor shaft so I can see it move.

Autoload won't move the motor. The tension screw is loose and the motor isn't moving.

I check the sensor to, it toggles 0-1-0 when I insert and remove filament....

So, what is left to check??

All I can think of is a pinched (broken) wire on the E-Motor....  Am I missing any option?

Ok really basic question here and forgive me if you have already done this but I take it you have heated the extruder up to temperature first before expecting autoload to work ? (or any extruding for that matter)

It wont load unless the temp is sufficient to melt that plastic type.  So normally you would preheat -PLA (if using PLA).  then when it gets to temp them insert the filament which should then feed it through once the sensor  registers it.  You can also set the extruder temp separately via the menu if you don't want to heat the bed during your testing.

For checking the extruder motor you can also heat to temp and then use the LCD menus to move the E axis, thereby extruding plastic.  If theres no filament loaded you should still see the motor turning and if there is filament you should see it feeding in and then eventually extruding.

@neophyl

I tried that.

I have put a small white spot of paint on the E-Motor shaft so I can see if it is moving.

Heated up the Extruder to the PLA temp. Auto load it on. Tested the sensor 0->1->0.

Pushed in the filament, nothing is happening. The motor isn't turning. I can push the filament and see the Motor move. The tension door bold is almost unscrewed.

Help

Try the simpler route.

Disable the filament sensor:  Fil. Sensor [Off].

From the menus, select Load Filament ... select PLA ... remember to press the SELET button, not the RESET [X] button .

When the printer is hot, it will beep at you. Insert your filament and press the SELECT button. Does the extruder motor suck in filament?

Oh, and one other thing. If my simple test doesn't work. Open the idler door, take a photo of the Bondtech extruder gears, and post it here.

Also - if the printer is powered on, you should NOT be able to turn the extruder gears by hand.  If you can force filament down the filament path by hand, and see the motor shaft turning, you have a wiring issue. You can test by selecting the Settings, Move Axis menu, and see if moving the E-axis does anything.

And one more simple question. Did you flash new firmware before running all the cals? Did you download the correct version for the MK3S, because the Mk3 firmware will flash okay - but not work to autoload filament.

Thanks, I will do all of these suggestions Tomorrow morning..  Never thought to Flash the firmware.....

Time to do some reading tonight 😊

Looking back, your first photo of the LCD shows MK3S firmware ... probably not that.
