Endstops triggering disconnect from computer
Hey yall,
Just picked up a Prusa i3 partially assembled last week from a friend, all I really had to do was hook up the wires and figure out the software. I'm pretty green at 3d printing but I've done some work with 3d modeling in the past.
When the print head hits one of the end stops (doesn't seem to matter which one) my computer disconnects from the printer. When the switch is released the computer immediately reconnects. I'm printing via USB since theres no SD card slot on the printer. Has anybody else ran into this? Is this an Arduino thing or did I screw up some wires or something? I've run out of words to Google for this lol.

Sounds like your end stop switches are wired wrong as what you are describing sounds like a short which drops power to the board when the switch is activated (which definitely shouldnt happen).
What version of prusa do you have ? I cant help more specifically but someone else may be able to and they are going to need to know specifics, pictures etc. Good luck.

I did not know Prusa I3 MK3 had endstops? Mine doesn't
I thoughts it's by checking stepper voltage?
edit: sorry just saw it's a generic i3 clone. Good to know that you won't run into above issues with endstops or missing sdcard slot on a original prusa 😉

I have a Replikeo version of a Prusa i3 Rework from RepRap. This wiring is what the previous owner had set up. I've attached some pictures if that helps. The first picture is the X axis endstop wire and the other pictures are that same wire plugged into the Arduino board. All of the other endstops follow this same setup. Is there something I can test with a multimeter or something to see what/where the short is?

on the board there are + and - signs, on the cable there are red black and green wires, should the red wire go on the + pin?

I tried flipping them so that the red lines up with the positive and the black lines up with the negative but now the printer doesn't stop when it reaches the endstop. The motor just keeps turning and making a grinding noise until I shut it off. I may have to check each wire and make sure it was installed correctly. My guess is somewhere along the line they were not installed correctly.
