Do you need a first layer calibration when changing Print settings?
Hello All,
I am relatively new to 3D printing with the Mk3, but have used Ultimaker and Stratasys FDM machines at work. I was able to get a successful 1st layer adhesion when printing with the stock nozzle and 0.15mm QUALITY, however when I change to .10mm and DETAIL with the stock nozzle, I do not get any adhesion. Both prints using the Textured spring steel sheet.
Is it normal to do 1st layer calibrations when changing between print quality settings? Or maybe I need to adjust my Z down more?

the Standard Prusa Profiles all use 0.2mm as the first layer height, so they SHOULD not change between layer height profiles...
however different material profiles may cause issues as the extruder and heatbed are possibly at different temperatures.
there is a thread at the following address which helps you do First layer calibration quickly.
at the bottom of the first post in the thread there is a zip file with 75mm square first layer profiles in ABS, PETG and PLA format's
if you set your printer to use 7x7 mesh bed levelling and use those profiles as appropriate you should be Ok...

Thank you for the quick reply, I definitely need to do some more trial and error, and will follow that post! I am using PLA and the same model, in the same position on the print bed, but when I change print quality settings to .10 to .15, absolutely no adhesion hmm.

I use several different profiles for PLA, and never adjust layer 1 before staring prints. I will occasionally adjust Live-Z +/-0.025 mm if I see an area that looks off, but generally I do the cal and then just print. The setting is permanent and should not need adjustment until you make a hardware change, like a new sheet, a different nozzle, etc.
Changing from 0.05 to 0.35 still uses a 0.20 layer one, adhesion should be exactly the same. The only changes - with stock profiles - is what happens AFTER layer 1 is down. If you are having adhesion issues with your changes, you are doing something odd and different than stock (the included filament, printer, and height profiles).
