Hi

Regarding the first layer calibration. The website ( https://help.prusa3d.com/article/ZhBlGFD9Ah-live-adjust-z ) says to move the Pinda lower, while the manual says higher. Which is correct?

The website says:
In practice, your Live adjust Z value can be anything between -0.100 and -2.000 mm. If you need to offset this value a lot to make the print stick (e.g. -2.500), you can lower the PINDA probe a tiny bit and repeat the First layer calibration.

The manual says on page 25:
If you have an offset more than -2.500, move the PINDA probe slightly higher.

Hi Bas, 

Live Z should NEVER go Positive!  it should always be a negative number... the firmware will not allow the value to go positive...

if the best live Z  value, is between say -0.0mm and say -0.3mm, with the textured powder coated build plate, then your Pinda is probably a touch too high,  and if you change nozzles or use the stickered build plate, you risk scraping the build plate with the Nozzle.
In this case, you should

a, loosen the Pinda Clamp, lower the Pinda A touch...  and re tighten the pinda clamp, (Note do not overtighten the pinda clamp, you risk damaging the clamp

b, re adjust the Live Z value for  best results... 

 

if the best live Z value is say -1.7mm to -2.0mm then your pinda is probably a bit too low, and you risk the Pinda colliding with the print if there is any warping, so you would be advised to 

1, adjust liveZ back towards -0.0, then

2. Loosen the Pinda clamp, raise the Pinda a touch, re tighten the Pinda Clamp. carefully...

3, readjust the live Z to the new Pinda Position... again for best results. 

Note, the Prusa Mini uses a Minda instead of the Pinda in the Mk2 or Mk3, but the adjustment process is similar

I don't like the Integrated 'First layer adjustment' code, which is accessed from the LCD Menu.  

for 0.4mm  nozzles on the Mk3 I use the files provided by Jeff Jordan in his, 'Life Adjust 'Z' My Way' thread , https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

the files are in a zipped file at the bottom of the first post, with options for PLA, PETG and ABS filaments.

I suspect these files would work on a Mini, but I don't have one to try, and whilst on the Mk3, the test patch would be in the cente of the build plate, the same Gcode, would put the test patch towards the right rear corner of the build plate

For bigger nozzles or smaller nozzles, you would need different test patch Gcode...
