Cannot unscrew heatsink from hotend...

After everything I've dealt with, I now have an even bigger problem. My hotend assembly became completely clogged. The filament inside wouldn't budge in or out. I heated it up, cooled it down, and just about everything imaginable. I dissembled the extruder and extracted the hotend, but I cannot get anything unscrewed FOR THE LIFE OF ME. The attatched photograph is as far as I have been able to go. I really can't afford to buy another one right now. Does anyone have any ideas?

You'll need to heat it before trying to unscrew anything, per the procedure on changing nozzles. Set the temp to 280 and carefully use pliers to hold the heat block while using heat-proof gloves to unscrew the heatsink and a 7mm socket on the nozzle.

If I turn it past 250, I begin to smell something burning. Is that okay?

First heat to 280c ... the hot end won't melt. I also use 280c to help with plugged nozzles.

Second, use a wrench or pliers to hold the HEATER BLOCK, and a socket wrench to unscrew the NOZZLE. Once the nozzle is loose, turn off the heat.

After the nozzle is out, now you should be able to unscrew the HEAT BREAK from the HEATER BLOCK. It should unscrew using fingers.

The HEAT BREAK may be require a wrench to remove from the HEAT SINK, but generally it is finger tight plus a nudge. There is also heat sink grease on the threads.

Like most things, this is precision stuff, high torque is NOT needed.

Daniel,

Once you get the nozzle loosened at 280c, you may want to let things cool and remove the heater and thermistor to continue work on the hot end - it may save you having to replace them.

It also occurs to me that in your photo, the nozzle might be set too deep in the heater block, and the heat break is unscrewed a bit too far. This could allow plastic to solidify in the gap that will exist between the nozzle and heat break and make removal a problem that can only be solved by heating.

The nozzle sets against the heat break, arrow, and the hex on the nozzle must be above the surface aluminum as shown.

I tried heating everything up again, but nothing would twist.

That's how it came when it arrived. Is there any chance then I could ask for a replacement?

Use the Chat feature on the Prusa Shop Homepage ( https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/ ), it is in the bottom right corner but can take a minute or so to appear... They should be able to help you out...

Just in case ... (and based on personal experience over the years) ...
