Calibrating the i3 mk3 printer with a computer

Hi all,

I have recently assembled my i3 mk3 printer, but ran into the problem that I have a faulty knob next to the LCD-screen. (I already tried a number of things like reflashing the FW, changing the cables, stretching the cables and so forth. Had a couple of nice chats with the support-guys from Prusa...) So I have to wait for a new LCD-module. In the meantime I looking for options to calibrate and start printing from a computer.
Now... I have slic3r and Pronterface running and comunicating with the printer, but I haven't found an option to calibrate (either manual or through a stored procedure). Is this option available / possible? How would that work if it is possible?

I hope someone can shed a light on this...
Thanks in advance.

Marc (newbie 😉 )

Hello Marc,

As you're new to 3D printing it just happens too fast that you're doing something wrong like copy/paste some GCODE and ram the nozzle into the bed. Damaging your sheet or bed will make you wait even longer.
That's why I would suggest to wait for the new LCD module.

*some* more common printer functions are available through common gcode sent through terminal. filament change, mesh leveling, etc.

I'm not aware of any way to do live z or mesh correction without the display, though. Thats probably the minimum you'd need if you haven't already done them.

Thanks Nikolai and Curtis for your answers.

I wasn't planning on programming while not having any experience. I was merely looking if there was some sort of menu-emulator through which I could operate the printer and thus calibrate.
That would be a cool feature I guess. But if it isn't available (yet) no problem, than I will indeed wait for the new LCD Module.

Kind regards,
Marc
