Bubbles in the first layer

Hi,

I have assembled and calibrated the printer myself, have done the first layer adjustment, printed some Prusa logo's with improving bottom after adjusting the Z . Printed some PLA examples and all looked quite well.

I switched to transparant PETG to print an ice cave and an ice plate for in the cabinet, for the glass pinguins. All worked out nice.

After that I switched to something really useful, https://www.thingiverse.com/make:846015 which stores the shaving equipment in the bathroom and makes the wife think I can do something really usefull with the printer 🙂 This design is " close to the edge "  of the heatbed, so after printing the top corners (at the far end of the bed) are not completely square but not a big problem.

2 days later I switched back to PLA to print a number of parts for a robot light for my son. I have re-done the first layer calibration, but I still think something is not ok. On some parts of the print there appear bubbles in the printing job. After the first layer I pause printing, make the bubbles a bit flat (sharp knive) and in the next 1 or 2 layers the surface gets nice and flat.

This usually happens in the first one or two objects on the bed, I am now printing 4 pieces of the item in one run.

Can anyone explain why this is happening ? The bed is cleaned with window washer and every now and then with alcohol wipes.

Thanks ,

Ben

Then I started to print a drawer with case

The bed is best cleaned with detergent and warm water, not with window cleaner.
Use window cleaner to prevent PETG (not PLA) from sticking too hard to a smooth bed. Then you spread window cleaner over the bed and let it dry, forming a thin film that allows PETG to adhere reasonably hard.
The structured bed does not need any extra preparations on the bed, only cleaning with detergent and warm water.

Bubble you see is because filament is not sticking to the bed.

Clean bed with dish soap, alcohol does not clean all dirt.

If you switch between filament, you must clean the bed with dish soap, because if you mix filament on the bed sicking will get bad.

Also check if first layer is good, this helps with sticking to the bed.

Big flat parts, i always use glue stick to prevent warping.
