Bottom of print, need help please!

Hi guys,

I have this print which the top is perfect however the bottom 6 x rectangle pieces are not smooth like the top.  I have been using supports when printing.  The height of the 6 x rectangles from the bottom is around 1.5mm so supports are needed.

Can anyone offer advice on a solution please.

RE: Bottom of print, need help please!

Because the bottom of the part is not in contact with the build plate the lowest layer is being printed as a bridge, essentially in mid air, and gravity takes an interest.  Subsequent layers have a platform to build on and normal layers ensue.

Yours is an example of a part that has not been designed with printing in mind and so it is a compromise.  If you have access to the source file you may be able to modify the part so that these surfaces rest directly on the build plate when they will regain quality; 'though that might not meet the functional design reqirements...

Your other option, if you have the MMU, is to print a solid, soluble support for the lowest layer to rest on.

Cheerio,

Thanks for the information, I thought this might be the issue with those parts sitting in mid air.
