Bad first print

Hello,

i am complete newbie to 3d printing and have bought a used Prusa MK3S+ with MMU2S and Revo Hotend.

After running the self test and the calibration procedure I tried to print the prusa logo as a first test (with PLA).

Unfortunately there is a lot of stringing (hopefully I am correct with this) and the characters do not adhere good to the basis.

Can this be connected to the first layer calibration? I guess not, and thus I am asking before starting to optimize this. The backside looks quite good and the logo adhered good to the plate.

Best regards

Oliver

May be one more information, I have the pinter in an unheated basement, the amibient temperature has been around 13° C during print.

Could this be an issue?

RE: Bad first print

After a few hours learning a lot about the filamentsensor and the extruder (I had an issue loading the filament via the MMU to the nozzle) I finally had the right idea. The filament specifies nozzle temperature of 205 +/- 10 °C. So I reduced the temperature and got it much, much better, even when it is still not perfect.

Any suggestions what can be optimized to get it even better?

RE: Bad first print

Hi Oliver,
It looks like you are slightly over extruding.
Prusa slicer normally sets the flow rate to 95% for your filament, you could consider going into settings, once the print has started, and re set the flow rate to 90%

or during slicing you could try changing the extrusion multiplier to 0.95 which has a similar effect.
Reducing the extruder temperature, can also reduce the effective flow rate, but may reduce inter layer adhesion.

In 3D printing. many factors interact.  and  with each other and change the resultant effects

regards Joan
