Mk3.9 Kit compatibility issues with PSU and heat bed??? Had to fill out a survey?
Boy, that COVID sure has some lingering effects... I got an email saying that the upgrade kit to 3.9 is having issues with some MK3 models. They talk about the PSU, but they inquire about the heat bed, but don't say why.
It looks like these upgrade kits aren't going to ship unit next month.
What a complete $h!t show. I guess I should be happy that they are reaching out by email and I don't have to search 'X' for it.
Hello!
I want to get in touch with you regarding your order of an MK3.9 upgrade kit. Unfortunately, the product required a bit more work than we originally expected and the start of the shipping is now scheduled for the end of August - apologies for the delay!
And there is one more thing. After the production of MK4 upgrades started, we discovered that some of the old revisions of the MK3 are not fully compatible with the upgrades. This problem also affects MK3.9 upgrades.
We want to ensure that you will get the correct parts. That's why we'd like to ask you to fill in this short form - it also contains reference photos so you know what to look for. If you have more orders containing upgrades, complete this form for each order separately:
Please fill out the questionnaire:
MK3.9 Upgrade Compability Questionnaire
Please, fill out this form as soon as possible. The questionnaire will be closed on 31st August, and after this date, we will process all orders with no responses as standard orders without additional components for compatibility. If you have a black PSU and screwed heatbed connectors, there’s no need to respond and your order will ship normally.
Just a quick explanation: we would like to know whether you have the old silver power supply unit. If you do, we’ll send you a few extra components to ensure compatibility with the kit. You can also consider upgrading to a brand new (black) Delta PSU that we use with all the newer printers. We’ve prepared a special offer for you - you can get the new PSU with 50% off. Check the form linked above and if you opt for the new PSU, we will send you a voucher via email shortly. And last but not least, we would like you to check the heatbed - whether the connectors are screwed on or soldered.
Thank you for your help! We’ll do our best to send your upgrade kit to you as soon as we can.

RE: Mk3.9 Kit compatibility issues with PSU and heat bed??? Had to fill out a survey?
I contacted Prusa and they said that I would get an email later this month about the power supply when the 3.9 kits start to ship. So I won't be getting it early. Forgot to ask abou the heated bed connection implications.

Is your headbed on that has solder on connections?

I also was wondering about the new power supply. I filled out the same survey, but didn't get any acknowledgement. I hope the survey made it.
I haven't been asked to buy a new "black psu" to replace my silver psu, but I think I need one.
I guess time will tell.......

I suspect it will take them a few weeks to make it through the questionnaires. I did not geta a response either.

Wait and see then, I'd like to be sure that my upgrade is coming though, it's been a long time since the end of March.
RE: Mk3.9 Kit compatibility issues with PSU and heat bed??? Had to fill out a survey?
As you can see on the Prusa shop pages, the reasons are:
- there is around a compatibility problem with the hot bed: some MK3 had soldered cables 😨 instead of screws, and this requires a different handling in terms of cabling and instructions, and unfortunately the current strategy is to replace the old bed with soldered cables with a new one (+99€) that has the screws to fix cables.
Unless someone that is very expert in high current soldering and has the tools, agree with Prusa tech service to hack the old one with soldered cables.
- also the original PSU iron has a different cabling that the black PSU, and so also the iron PSU this requires its special set of power cables and a different instruction set on the guides.
I think the delay is due to Prusa still thinking how to solve the compatibility assembling issues with people that have the old PSU and soldered hot bed.
My order is from 01/04/2023 i don't received any email!!
I simulate to redoing my order 1 Upgrade from MK3S+ to MK4 and prusa ask all new clients for PSU Black or Silver, and screws 2+3 screws or 2+1 screws???
More or less if the shop ask this, the delivery service need to send me an email for ask this.!!!!???
And if my printer mk3s+ is the latest , my upgrade HAVE' NT ANY PROBLEM OF COMPATIBILITY, for what i don't received my upgrade?
I ask by chat what Prusa shop need for send the correct upgrade, and i received the answer NOTHING????
I have a Black PSU and 2+3 Screws (power cable connected) i send this information to support email!
PLEASE NOT MORE EXCUSES

i had the same issue with no emails all sorted now just contact tech support
RE:
I happen to have an early model Mk3 (later upgraded to MK3S+ & MMU2S) with a silver psu and soldered heatbed.
I did originally order the upgrade to MK4, but decided to cancel it due to continuous delays and reported small issues with the early versions of MK4. I'd rather not be a guinea pig this time, but rather get the upgrade to V3.9 once it's proven to be stable (also with the MMU3 upgrade).
With the latest price increases (need to change the heatbed for wiring/connector issues ?) I just can't see any point to upgrade the printer as its just not worth it, unless I can get the required heatbed cabling / connectors and solder the required cables myself or just change the connectors.
What really surprises me (again) is that there doesn't appear to be any kind of proper planning with these upgrade releases. How is it possible that prusa has forgotten what they released in the beginning as MK3 ? Shelling 100€ extra for the new heatbed makes any of these upgrades completely bogus ---> V3.9 upgrade price is now 658,90€ ???
Of course this price doesn't affect that many early adopters, but I believe its pretty insane offer compared to full MK4.
These releases just seem to be pretty chatioc (also what comes to schdules) once again.
RE: Mk3.9 Kit compatibility issues with PSU and heat bed??? Had to fill out a survey?
The upgrade kits are sold because there is customer demand for it despite not having much if any savings over a new printer.
The soldered heat bed was shipped for about the first 6 months of 2018 so the number of people is impacted is small in comparison to the total number MK3 units. Doesn't sound too bad unless you have one of the early days MK3 kits. Mine was delivered in Mark 2018 with the soldered bed.
For what it is worth, I purchased a new MK4 kit instead of upgrading the MK3 due to anticipating the heat bed issues.
