First layer "over squished" and nozzle blob

Doing the first prints after upgrading to the Mk3.9 and I feel that the nextruder is setting too close to the bed and over squishing the filament. Or is over extruding I  guess. My example is the first layer of organic supports, in the slicer it shows a lattice of non-touching filament, the actual print has a solid layer. One of the results of this is that a blob of filament will slowly build up on the tip of the nozzle that eventually sticks to the print. This will result in a defect in the print or if big enough, a head crash/layer shift when the nozzle comes back by and hits it.  It might be an extrusion rate issue as I generally print mechanical parts and so have a lot of top/bottom layers and perimeters, and I've noticed that the nozzle blob buildup happens while doing top solid surfaces too. I haven't found a search that results in a post with actionable tips to try and fix this. Can I adjust slicer / printer settings to fix this?

Stock Mk3.9, slicer 2.7.4, printing Prusa PETG
